Joplin High School has earned Cognia’s Accreditation with Merit, a significant recognition of the school’s commitment to continuous improvement, effective leadership, equitable practices, and strong learning environments for students.

This achievement reflects the dedication of JHS educators, support staff, and administrators who work each day to support the needs of every student and continually strengthen the opportunities we provide.

We are grateful to the entire JHS team for their commitment to excellence and proud to see their work recognized through this rigorous accreditation process. We will continue building on this momentum as we strive for better outcomes and opportunities for every student.

Congratulations, JHS Eagles! 🦅

Joplin High School has been accredited by Cognia since 1915 - but this year we are celebrating their achievement of Accreditation with Merit!

Accreditation with Merit is the second-highest level of accreditation in the Cognia system, and Joplin High School scored only 4 points below the highest level of Accreditation with Distinction.

“Our team of educators and support staff at JHS are committed to supporting the needs of every student, every day, and I’m proud to see that commitment recognized by such an impactful global organization,” said principal Dr. Oliver. “I’m confident that the work it’s taken to earn this accreditation will only improve opportunities for our students in the years to come.”

Congratulations to the educators and support staff at JHS!

Students, staff, parents, and members of the community came together to celebrate JHS fall sports at last night’s Rose Garden pep rally!

Why is it called the Rose Garden? Great question! The 1958 JHS building that was located at 20th & Indiana prior to the 2011 tornado featured an actual rose garden in the middle of campus. Our understanding is that the rose garden became an important location for hosting remembrances, pep rallies, and other gatherings. After the tornado, students and staff chose to keep the memory of the rose garden alive at the annual fall community pep rally.

We're looking forward to a great season at Joplin High School!

We are proud to offer a broad spectrum of fine and performing arts opportunities for our students, and even more proud of all the ways these Eagles shine with creativity and dedication.

Be on the lookout for events to attend in support of our artists this school year!

Today, JHS Spanish teacher ReGenia Brown brought a taste of Spain to the classroom!

Students learned about La Tomatina, the famous annual tomato festival held on the last Wednesday of August in Buñol, Spain. Known as the world’s largest food fight, the festival features an hour-long tomato battle.

Students explored the festival’s history, practiced Spanish vocabulary, and even got to recreate the experience with red paper “tomatoes.”
