If your student is having a retake, please return the entire portrait package (including the insert sheet) to the photographer on retake day. Feel free to attach a note describing what you’d like done differently.

We are hoping to purchase a new machine as ours is currently out of service, and will be popping from borrowed machines.

Happy Custodian’s Day to Mr. Wayne, Mr. Matthew, and Ms. Corina!!

Today is National Custodians and Maintenance Workers Appreciation Day, and we'd like to celebrate by introducing you to one of Joplin Schools' finest!

Meet Wayne Lackey, Building Engineer at McKinley Elementary. Wayne has been with Joplin schools for 5 years, after joining the team at Joplin High School. In 2023, he transferred to East Middle School, then Soaring Heights Elementary where he became helpful to the Basic Skills classes.

"I knew then that the elementary level is where I needed to be," said Wayne. "In 2024 I was promoted to Building Engineer here at McKinley. I have a heart for all children, but working with the 'littles' is by far the most rewarding. They can be a challenge at times, but they are also the most fun to be around. Sadly, school is the best part of some of these children's day. Knowing that I play a part in making that happen is very fulfilling."

Wayne is a dedicated and skilled member of the Joplin Schools Buildings and Grounds team, and has worked tirelessly to keep McKinley running full steam ahead during recent construction and renovation work to modernize the space for students and staff.

"I cannot speak for all custodians," said Wayne, "but I believe the majority of us really do enjoy being here to make school the best it can be for the students and staff alike. We may do a lot to make it a safe and clean place for the students, but the staff we work with make sure we know how much we are appreciated. I believe it takes a special person to work with children of any age. And I am blessed to have a team that has the same desire and drive as I do to make this a great place for students and staff. It feels amazing to work for THE BEST school district around!! As long as I am able, I look forward to working in this capacity until full retirement age. GO EAGLES!!"

Wayne, you and your colleagues are very appreciated! The school day and year simply could not operate without your leadership, guidance, and skill. Thank you, and happy Custodians Appreciation Day!
