Meet our SNA Junior Student of the Month, ⭐️Kirstyn Loyd⭐️

Kirstyn shows up every day with dedication, kindness, and a true passion for nursing. Her commitment to her future patients and her positive impact on those around her make this recognition incredibly well deserved. Congratulations, Kirstyn — we are so proud of you.

What inspired you to pursue nursing?
What inspired me to pursue nursing is my passion for helping people improve their lives, especially when it comes to their health. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and how it works — it’s truly incredible. My family also inspires me every day; I’ll be the first nurse in my immediate family, and that motivates me to keep pushing forward and show them my determination to make a difference in the nursing world.

What has been your favorite nursing school memory so far?
My favorite memory so far has been seeing positive outcomes in patients during my clinical rotations. Knowing that I’ve had even a small impact on someone’s recovery is such an amazing and rewarding feeling.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about joining SNA?
My advice to future MSSU nursing students is to join SNA! It’s a wonderful experience that allows you to step away from coursework and focus on supporting your program while building relationships with other motivated students.

What’s your go-to study snack or coffee order?
My go-to study snack is colorful Goldfish, and my favorite coffee order is a Banana Bread Blondie with extra caramel drizzle from 7 Brew!

What motivates you to keep going when school gets tough?
What keeps me going is remembering that I’m serving the Lord by serving His people. My faith and my family are my biggest motivators — they inspire me every day to be the best version of myself and the best future nurse I can be.

Meet Lainey, a senior nursing student who’s passionate, driven, and ready to make a difference!

Go-to study coffee order: Hot

Favorite specialty: Emergency Medicine — “It keeps me on my toes and makes a large impact on patients’ health.”

Advice for future SNA members: “It doesn’t hurt to join an association that will continually support you through nursing school — it can only help!”

If not nursing, she’d be: A teacher

What keeps her going: “The impact I will have on others!”

We’re halfway through the semester, and the Student Nursing Association (SNA) is just getting started!
So far, we’ve:�✔️ Held our first meeting (yes, there were donuts)�✔️ Had a great time at Third Thursday, connecting with the community at our table

MSSU nursing students scores high on exit exams Joplin, Mo (KOAM)--This week marks National Nurses Week. Missouri Southern will celebrate as they release their students into the Four States, which will help combat the critical shortage currently facing
