As a profoundly public pursuit, history is essential to active and empathetic citizenship and requires effective communication to make the past accessible to multiple audiences. This week’s question asks:

What has been the most significant achievement of AUKUS in the past five years?

AUKUS—the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States—has become one of the most consequential security partnerships of the twenty-first century. Its significance extends beyond the development of nuclear-powered submarines to include interoperability, defense technology, industrial capacity, and allied cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.

We’re delighted to see Dr. Salo contributing his expertise to this important international discussion and continuing the department’s commitment to connecting the study of history with contemporary global affairs.
