Join us for Guest artist Recital and Masterclass with Dr. Matthew Reynolds this Saturday at 2pm in the Recital Hall, and 3:30 in the bandroom

Dr. Matthew Reynolds is the Assistant Professor of Horn at the University of Oklahoma. Before his teaching position at OU, he taught freelance private lessons for 10 years to students of all ages in Waco, Texas; Wichita, Kansas; and Los Angeles, California. He has played with many other professional orchestras such as the 2nd horn of the Wichita Symphony from 2014-2016, and subbed with the Waco Symphony, Wichita Grand Opera, Downey Symphony, and many other regional orchestras in the areas he has lived in. He is currently the 4th horn of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic starting back in September 2019. His teachers were Jeffrey Powers (retired) at Baylor University (BM: Horn Performance), Dr. Nicholas Smith (retired) at Wichita State University (MM: Horn Performance), and Dr. Kristy Morrell at the University of Southern California (DMA: Horn Performance).

Join our very own Dr. Kristen Sullivan for Special Topics Session: Practice 101

This lecture will focus on practice do's and don't for getting as much out of your practice time as possible. We will address motor learning theory and how it can best be applied to us as musicians. We will cover trouble shooting ideas, as well as wellness concepts to combat musicians' performance anxiety.

Dr. Kristen Sullivan is a coloratura soprano and Collaborative Voice Instructor in Music and Theatre at Arkansas State University. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas with specialized training in vocal pedagogy and is a National Center for Voice and Speech-trained vocologist with previous internship experience at UT Southwestern Medical Clinics Voice Clinic. Her career encompasses extensive performance in musical theater, cabaret, opera, and operetta, with notable international performances across Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Dr. Sullivan has championed lesser-known composers and produced North American premieres. Her scholarly interests focus on performing arts health, voice science, and women composers and pedagogues including Augusta Holmès and Mathilda Marchesi.

This event is a part of the Tuesday Morning Recital series, and is eligible for recital credit!
