World’s most boopable dahlia.

We understand.

Dahlias don’t politely fade into winter. In fact, just as the rest of the farm begins to slow down, they seem determined to become more ridiculous—making enormous, improbable flowers right up until our first hard frost.

And then, quite literally overnight, they turn pitch black to prove drama kills don’t slowly fade. Dramatic to the very end.

Here at Wildhaven, we usually have another two or three weeks. (Sometimes less. But Ive been reasoning with mother nature something fierce to hold out)

Which means these are the last few weeks of Wildhaven dahlias for the year. If you’ve been meaning to bring some home, this is the moment. (Preorder for farm pickup)

Until then, we’ll let this one keep showing off.

Warm soil + cool air + fewer watering headaches = fall is prime planting time.

Plant it now. Let the roots do their thing. Take the credit in spring.

**LAST CALL FOR SUNDAY**

Sunday looks like a beautiful fall day to spend a little time in the garden.

Join us at Wildhaven for Plant Now, Bloom Later, an afternoon of plants, conversation and wandering around the farm.

At 1:30, Cass will lead a casual Native Plant Chat about creating gardens that are beautiful, useful and a little easier to live with — choosing the right plants for the right places, why fall is such a good time to plant, how natives support the life around us, and how to incorporate them without feeling like your entire garden suddenly has to become “native only.”

We’ll also wander through Wildhaven to look at some of these ideas in practice — pocket meadows, native cottage landscaping, our native meadow and the decidedly non-native Meadow of Joy.

And rather than charging you to come listen to us talk about plants and then sending you home empty-handed, your Native Plant Chat admission becomes a credit toward plants you purchase that day.

We’ll have natives, flowering garden favorites, herbs and plenty of plants ready to head home with you.

This weekend is straight up fall weather here in the High Country folks! (whether my dahlias and I agree to it or not;-)

It’s officially sweater-weather-in-the-High-Country season.

Sunny. Around 65°. Leaves beginning to turn. Firepit weather by night. And somehow, Dogwood Cottage is still open this weekend.

Tucked down by the creek and meadow on our 30-acre farm + forest retreat, Dogwood is our little off-grid forest cottage made for two (and the dog who refuses to be left behind).

Come for the mountain air. Stay for the sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, creek wandering, fires under the stars — and the particular kind of quiet you only find when you disappear into the woods for a couple of days.

Little Lily + Hemlock are spoken for. Dogwood could be yours.

Monday is the cutoff to order on the High Country Food Hub. Wildhaven has our fresh flowers, veg, native plants or AMAZING herbs this week. (all grown with sun/water/love and no pesticides/herbicides;-)
