10/10/2026
On Saturday October 10, 2026, the Fulton County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) will conduct its 2026 Simulated Emergency Test.
This year we will be testing our ability to communicate via simplex (no repeaters) between the Fulton County EOC, Nathan Littauer Hospital and St Mary's Hospital (both Guy Park and Memorial campus')
Our simulated scenario is:
Wide spread communication and intermittent power outages stretching into Fulton and Montgomery counties. NYS hospitals are experiencing extremely high patient census' due to the annual flu season. The DOH is requesting bed status (ER, ICU and Med/Surg) of all NYS hospitals.
We will gather that "simulated information", relay it the the Fulton County EOC and then send it via WINLINK to another amateur radio operator (simulating the NY DOH).
WINLINK is an amateur radio system that allows a licensed amateur radio operator to compose, send and receive email via amateur radio (VHF or HF-Short wave).
WINLINK takes the email from an amateur radio operator and sends it into a system where it can be received by an operator out of the area who has internet service, where the email can be put back on the internet to continue to its intended destination.
Following the conclusion of the exercise and our review, I will forward the results.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me.
