After months of quiet hallways, the Johnstown school family came together for their Opening Day on September 2 to welcome new staff, celebrate milestones, and look ahead to an exciting year.
Superintendent Alicia D. Koster introduced the District’s “Portraits in Practice” Strategic Implementation Plan, a multi-year roadmap focused on student agency, belonging, real-world readiness, equity, and access.
The District is expanding opportunities and support this year through a new Family Resource Center, District-wide school-based telehealth, a JHS Learning Center, Conscious Discipline at Pleasant Ave. and Warren St., expanded college and career programs, Early CTE Pathways, Driver Education, and new athletics and extracurriculars including girls varsity wrestling, competitive cheer, esports, and Unified Sports.
New staff members were introduced and five longtime educators were celebrated for an incredible 25 years of service each, representing 125 years of combined dedication to Johnstown students and families. Congratulations to Cory Cotter, Scott Hale, Quinn Swartwout, Nicole Davis, and Meredith Fagan.
As Board President Jennifer Sponnoble shared, the District is ready for the year ahead, and grateful to everyone whose hard work made Opening Day possible.
Looking forward to welcoming students in grades 1-12 for their first day of school on Tuesday, September 8; kindergarten students on Wednesday, September 9; and pre-K students on Friday, September 11. Here’s to a great school year!
