Welcome Back to School, Johnson-Brock Eagles!
As we begin another school year at Johnson-Brock Public School, I want to welcome all of our students, parents, grandparents, and community members back for another great year. We are excited to have our hallways filled with students, our classrooms filled with learning, and our community once again coming together to support our Eagles.
The start of school is always an exciting time, but it also brings increased traffic, school buses, pedestrians, and activity around our school. I would like to take a few minutes to remind everyone of some important safety practices that will help us start the year safely.
Please Be Patient and Aware Around School Buses
Our buses carry some of the most important people in our community, our students. Please remember that getting students to and from school safely is everyone's responsibility.
When you are approaching a school bus, slow down, pay attention, and be prepared to stop. Never pass a school bus when its stop arm is extended and red warning lights are flashing. Students may be crossing the road or moving into areas that are difficult for drivers to see.
Please also remember that buses make frequent stops and may need additional room to maneuver. Give our drivers plenty of space and be patient as they load and unload students.
Stop for the Bus Stop Arm
A reminder that the bus stop arm is there to protect our students. When the stop arm is extended and the red lights are flashing, traffic must stop as required by law.
Even if you don't see a student immediately, please remain stopped until the bus driver has retracted the stop arm and the warning lights have been turned off.
One moment of impatience or distraction could have serious consequences. Please don't take that chance.
Parking on Main Street
As school begins, we will once again have increased traffic around Main Street and the school.
Please be mindful of where you park and avoid parking in areas that interfere with business parking, traffic flow, visibility, bus routes, or student drop-off and pick-up. We want to make sure buses can safely enter and leave the school area and that students can get to and from vehicles without having to walk into traffic.
Slow Down and Drive Safely
Perhaps the most important reminder is simply this: slow down.
During the first few weeks of school, there will be more children walking, riding bicycles, getting on and off buses, and crossing streets. There will also be parents dropping off students and staff arriving for work.
Please put away distractions, watch your speed, and keep your eyes on the road. Arriving at school a minute later is always better than taking a risk that could put a student, parent, staff member, or community member in danger.
One Community, One Responsibility
School safety is not just the responsibility of the school. It takes all of us—students, parents, staff, bus drivers, and community members—working together.
Let's start this school year with a commitment to look out for one another, follow the rules of the road, and make sure every student arrives at school and gets home safely each day.
Thank you for your continued support of Johnson-Brock Public School and for helping us make safety a priority.
Welcome back, Eagles! Let's make it another outstanding school year!
