Coach’s Thoughts:

Well regionals is always hard, but we have a lot to celebrate. This year we got our first wins at a regional tournament and nearly had a chance send someone to state.

Maverick Folger 126 # 0-2. Maverick had a tough bracket. He started off wrestling the #1 seed from Hill City and then lost a barn burner on the backside to good wrestlers from Ellis. To show how competitive his bracket was, in the blood round The Hill City kid beat the Ellis kids. I’m excited to see how far Maverick can go with more mat time and experience.

Nash Toole 190 # 0-2. Nash wrestled hard but wasn’t able to get win at regionals. As a first year wrestler he did well. With more mat time and experience he could really come along in the sport.

Sean Hines 165 # 1-2. Sean got Stanton County’s first win in a regional tournament. He was th first match of the day and came out swinging. Sean is an incredibly active wrestler, but sometimes gets himself out of position. I been proud of him all year and I’m going miss having him the room next year.

Carter Seyb 132 # 3-2. Carter wrestled a great tournament. 132 # is a very competitive this year. Carter came into the tournament as the 10th seed. He won his first match against the 7th seed and then lost to the 2nd seed from Norton. On the backside Cater turned into the comeback kid. He was behind in every match on the backside and won against the 9th seed and 6th seed. In the “blood round” he got down 0-11 in the first period and came back to 15-18 with :40 seconds on the third and chances to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament over the number 5 seed. It didn’t end the way we wanted but I was extremely proud him and his tournament.

These boys came into the hardest regional tournament in the state and didn’t flinch. I’m excited for next years boys season and getting them on the mat over the summer to get better.

And while we don’t get to take the plaque home we’re NWKS league champs, scoring 99 team points.

I cannot be more proud of these young athletes and how much work they put into this season. The future for Stanton County Wrestling is bright.
