The ETSU Department of Psychology is comprised of dedicated faculty/staff who are committed to advancing the scientific understanding of human behavior and mental processes, via our research and our undergraduate/doctoral programs. The Department has outstanding educational programs, including four undergraduate major concentrations, as well as an undergraduate minor, and a doctoral program with a clinical concentration and experimental concentration. The mission of the PhD Concentration in Clinical Psychology is to provide doctoral training in Clinical Psychology for rural behavioral health and practice in the context of integrated primary health care. The mission of the PhD Concentration in Experimental Psychology is to provide students with broad and general training in translational research in the psychological sciences, including the areas of developmental, cognitive, and social psychology, personality, affective behavior, and behavioral neuroscience. Faculty have a broad range of topical and research expertise, and most have active laboratories which allow for students at all levels of training to become involved in the research process. The Department has three student organizations, including Psi Chi (Honors Society), Psychology Club, and the Graduate Student Association of Psychology. The Department also values diversity and infuses attention and sensitivity to diversity through 1) a long-term, systematic plan for the recruitment and retention of diverse staff and students; 2) education of students; and 3) establishment of a climate of respect.
