One of the best aspects about Sigma Chi is our Lifelong ΣΧperience and the willingness of alums to mentor/share Brotherhood with undergraduate Brothers. This picture was taken earlier this week at the weekly alumni luncheon. Among the Alumni are 2 undergraduate brothers who joined them for the lunch. Each week undergraduate brothers typically join the Alumni group for lunch to hear their stories; hear about the Alum’s careers; listen to them talk about the latest sporting news and the undergraduate Brothers often share news about how the chapter is doing. Brotherhood doesn’t end.

Brothers and Friends:

It is with great sadness that we report that Alum/Alpha Richard Higdon (bond #6) has entered the Chapter Eternal. Richard was a great Sigma Chi who truly had a Lifelong Experience once initiated in 1969. He was 81 years old and had served as an "Alumni Big Brother" several times over the past 15 years. He was also a fixture at our Tailgates; Reunions; Weekly Lunches and other gatherings so long as his health permitted. There will be a Celebration of Life this Sunday, July 19th from 4pm to 6pm at the Johnson City Country Club.

He is survived by his son Dennis (also a Zeta Omega - Sigma Chi) and his family along with other family members including his nephew Trey (also a Zeta Omega - Sigma Chi).

From the Obituary: "Richard was driven by his brother's passion for Sigma Chi fraternity leading him to assist in starting a chapter in the late 60s Sigma Chi Alpha, (Alpha #6) which became Zeta Omega Sigma Chi at ETSU in which he was heavily involved his whole life. With his calm demeanor he influenced and mentored many college kids through the years with house visits, lunches, football games and fraternity events."

From the White Rose Ceremony: "His Friendship was enduring; his generosities were large; and his life was an inspiration. He loved his Fraternity; but he knew that its helpfulness and sympathies were meant to be broader than the bounds of the organization."

We are saddened to report that alum Richard Higdon - one of the founding members of our Chapter in 1969 (an Alpha) has entered the Chapter Eternal. We will post funeral arrangements as we are made aware.

Richard maintained the “Spirit of Youth” and remained an active alum over the years. He would often be seen at Sigma Chi events and served as an Alumni big brother several times. All Honor to his Name!
