Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Jill Channing
When Dr. Jill Channing stepped into online teaching at ETSU, she expected technology to be one of the biggest challenges. What she discovered instead was an incredible opportunity to build meaningful connections with students.
“Teaching online at ETSU has become one of the most rewarding — and honestly surprising — chapters of my career. The students who show up in my online courses are motivated, thoughtful, and often balancing more than most people realize: jobs, families, careers, and community responsibilities — all while choosing to invest in their education. That means something to me, and I try to make sure my teaching reflects it.”
Thank you, Dr. Channing, for creating a supportive and inspiring learning environment for ETSU students both inside and outside the virtual classroom! East Tennessee State University ETSU Grad School Clemmer College of Education and Human Development at ETSU

Student Spotlight : Benson S.
For this Buccaneer, the Human Services, B.S. program has helped turn his passion for helping others into a reality. With supportive advisors and professors, along with the flexibility of a 100% online format, the program has allowed Benson to successfully balance school, work, and family while completing his degree.
"I wanted a career that would allow me to help the people in my community. It [the Human Services, B.S.] has been a great experience. The advisors, professors, and other staff are helpful and will always point you in the right direction. The program being 100% online has allowed me to return to school to finish my degree while holding down a job and household. I’m glad to be a part of this celebrated program at ETSU!"

Spring always brings a buzz of excitement in higher education. Students have just graduated or are celebrating the end of the semester; some may be starting a summer class, others are soaking up the return of warm (humid!) weather. As we reflected on this special time of year, we wanted to share some memories of our staff's own graduations.
If you have graduated from college, we'd love for you to share your photos and if you would like, the graduation year too! A degree is a lifetime achievement, and you should be proud of your accomplishment!

Homer Eugene Henley, Jr. truly embodies what it means to .
At 73 years old, he crossed the graduation stage to fulfill a dream more than 50 years in the making - earning his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Decades ago, Homer made the selfless decision to pause his education to care for a chronically ill parent, putting family before himself with remarkable love and devotion.
Today, Homer proudly joins the ranks of ETSU alumni, and we could not be more inspired by his perseverance, sacrifice, and achievement. His journey is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to finish what you started.
