ETSU Tuba & Euphonium

Welcome to the Tuba and Euphonium Studio of the ETSU Department of Music. Nestled in the mountains of East Tennessee, ETSU is a beautiful location and atmosphere to attend college. As a member of the tuba & euphonium studio students can expect to learn not only from me, their private lesson instructor, but also from their colleagues in the studio. The studio meets together once a week to play for one another, receive comments, and help one another learn the craft of our instrument. We also use that time to sight read ensemble music, and explore topics related to the instrument and a career in music in general, like a proper warm-up/daily routine, overcoming nerves, and résumé and biography writing. In private lessons students can expect to learn the fundamentals of their instrument. These include proper posture, breathing, tone production, scales, rhythm, intonation, sight reading, and most importantly, musicality. We will explore a variety of musical styles, including all periods of classical, jazz, and contemporary music. Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble also meets once a week, and is open to majors and non-majors. The ensemble explores a wide variety of repertoire, including transcriptions of classical and jazz works, and original works for tuba-euphonium ensemble. The ensemble performs at the end of every semester and also participates in other events throughout the year, like Tuba Christmas. As a prospective student you are welcome to attend a studio class or participate in an ensemble rehearsal, as well as receive a complimentary private lesson.
