Milligan University is a Christ-centered, liberal arts university in Northeast Tennessee dedicated to preparing students for lives of servant-leadership, service, and meaningful work through rigorous academics, community and an education rooted in faith. Since its founding in 1866, Milligan’s mission has been to educate men and women as servant-leaders in a variety of careers. Twenty-five years later, we still pause to remember. Milligan's Beamer Memorial in the Village on Emmanuel Hill stands as a lasting reminder to . Todd Beamer's final words, "Let's roll," became a rallying cry of courage and a symbol of heroism as he and fellow passengers tried to reclaim United Flight 93 from hijackers on September 11, 2001.

The Beamer family often attended the School of Ministry on Milligan's campus when Todd was a child, and they remain close friends of the university today. Todd's legacy continues to be honored by Milligan with the Todd Beamer Student Leaders in Christian Service Award, an annual student honor recognizing servant-leaders on campus, and the Todd Beamer Scholarship, which is awarded to students attending Emmanuel Christian Seminary.

The Milligan community remains deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayer, compassion, and support we have received following the devastating loss of Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers and the injuries of several other members of our cycling team. In the midst of profound grief, we have been reminded again and again of the strength of a community rooted in Christ that comes together to care for one another.

This week, our campus has also welcomed students back for a new academic year, some for the very first time. These days have held many things at once: the joy of reunion, the hope and anticipation of a new beginning, and the very real grief and struggle our community continues to carry. We are learning what it means to hold all of these things, leaning on Christ and our community.

The families of Haylan and Brayden have each scheduled services in their home communities, where families and friends will gather to remember and celebrate their lives. As those services take place, we ask that you continue to pray especially for their families, our cycling team, our students who are recovering and their families, and all those who are carrying the weight of this tragedy.

Through all of this, we continue to hold fast to the hope we have in Jesus Christ, trusting that Christ meets us in our grief, walks with us in our joy, and remains faithful through every season.

Move-In Day is here! 🧡

Today, we welcome a new class of Buffs home to Milligan. Cars are being unloaded, residence halls are buzzing, and our campus is once again filled with students, families, faculty, and staff. 

There’s something really meaningful about gathering together as a Milligan community. As we begin this new year, we’re grateful for the people who make this place what it is and for the ways our community continues to show up for one another.
