The CDC Tick Bite Tracker is reporting higher-than-normal emergency room visits for tick bites in many regions of the U.S.

As summer brings more time outdoors—from hiking and camping to gardening and yard work—it's important to take steps to prevent tick bites. Use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and check yourself, children, and pets for ticks after spending time outside.

If you find an attached tick, remove it promptly. Early removal can help reduce the risk of Lyme disease.
