Josiah is using a digital borescope to check the valves and cylinder walls on a 1972 Piper PA-28-180 (N4828T) during its annual inspection.

Lycoming’s sodium-filled valves pull a lot of heat through the stem. If the valve seat contact isn't perfect, heat builds up fast and leads to burnt valves or stuck stems. We scope the cylinders to catch that wear early.

Ever wonder what a plane actually hangs from if it needs its parachute?

We're installing a BRS (ballistic recovery system) parachute into this Cessna 172. The harness runs from the parachute, out through the rear windshield, up through the center of the fuselage, and tees off into the main wing bolts at the leading-edge carry-through spar, the same bolts that would carry the full weight of the aircraft if this system is ever needed.

It's a great look at the kind of detail work that goes into keeping general aviation safe, and we're having a lot of fun with this build. More updates as the install progresses!

Another Solo Flight Milestone at Goodrich Pilot Training Center!

In the shop this week: a beautiful 1961 Cessna 172C in for its annual inspection.🐝

There's something special about working on an aircraft with this much history. From prop starts to a well-loved cabin companion, this one's full of character.

Our technicians love seeing classic airframes come through the hangar bay. Here are a few unique facts that make the 'C' model a standout piece of general aviation history:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 "𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸" 𝗙𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲: This era of 172s features a sleek, solid rear fuselage line. The iconic, wrap-around rear window (Omni-Vision) wasn't introduced by Cessna until 1963.

𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗱: While modern 172s run on 4-cylinder engines, this vintage beauty relies on a smooth-running, 6-cylinder Continental O-300 powerplant.

𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 "𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗿" 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗽𝘀: A favorite among purists! Unlike the electric flaps seen in later models, this aircraft features a mechanical "J-bar" handle. It offers that direct, tactile feel that many pilots love for precise, immediate control.

First Solo Flight Success at Goodrich Pilot Training Center! 🛫

A massive congratulations to Joshua Fan on completing his very first solo flight on 6/24/26. Taking the controls completely on your own for the first time is a major milestone that every pilot remembers for the rest of their life.

Joshua did an incredible job, demonstrating the skills and confidence required to fly solo. A huge thank you goes out to his CFI, Jacob Emm, for the excellent instruction and support to get him to this big day.

The sky is just the beginning, Joshua. We are incredibly proud of your achievement and can't wait to see where your aviation journey takes you next.

We were happy to help with some quick repairs on this impressive Beechcraft 1900 twin turbo prop, but this aircraft is not for transporting people (except the crew).

Race for Life Rescue provides air transportation for animals in life-threatening situations, rescuing animals from overpopulated shelters, areas affected by natural disaster, and relocate those living in unhealthy environments to safe locations where they have a chance to begin a new life and find a loving home.
