📢 CHECK IT OUT! A new way to connect with our community!

We often hear from people with disabilities and their families who are looking for inclusive, accessible, or welcoming ways to get involved. We also know there is so much happening across our region that can be difficult to find!

In response, Access ETSU created a new Community Involvement Guide to bring opportunities together in one place and make them easier to discover.

We believe our communities belong to everyone. This guide does not define where people with disabilities belong or limit involvement to designated “inclusive” activities. Instead, it highlights just some of the many opportunities to participate, connect, volunteer, work, lead, and have fun.

🔖 Save the guide and check back often! We’ll continue adding opportunities as we learn about them.

📣 And we need your help! Know about an event, activity, volunteer opportunity, class, club, or other way to get involved in Northeast Tennessee or Southwest Virginia? Send it our way!

Please SHARE this post to help us reach others who know about opportunities to add. The more our community shares, the more opportunities we can help people discover. 🌟

See it. Share it. Get involved!

Last week we kicked off the new semester with a trip to the challenge course! ETSU's Outdoor Adventure staff guided students and staff through the ropes course (the zipline was a big hit). Those who preferred to remain on the ground enjoyed music, donuts, and good company. We can't wait to see what this semester brings! A big thank you to the Outdoor Adventure staff!

What a great first week back it's been! These pictures don't even begin to capture all the excitement of this week. Thank you to all the students, families, staff, and faculty who work together to make it all happen.

The countdown to fall semester begins! We're especially excited for all the new faces on campus, like Zach! Zach enjoys fly fishing, loves animals, and has a YouTube channel (see the link below). We can't wait to welcome all new Bucs to campus!

Access ETSU's partnership with the Office of the Executive Director of Academic Advisement is just one way we strive for our students to be fully included at ETSU. We look forward to continuing to work with advising staff to improve student outcomes!

It may be the last day of Disability Pride Month, but the need for a more accessible world continues everyday. We can thank disability-led design and advocacy for so many things that make life easier and better, and allow everyone to participate in the world around us! What's your favorite accessibility tool?

We can't stop shouting out what the Access community is up to this summer! Ava has goals of becoming a doctor, and spent time scoping out what a future in New Orleans could look like. She loved the culture, music, and food - at one point she ate so much she literally got sick. She got to ride on a steamboat, eat at the birthplace of bananas foster, check out voodoo shops, and see Louis Armstrong's first trumpet. We're glad she had a great time, but happy she's not leaving Johnson City just yet!

Joseph is our last summer highlight this week! Joseph has been working abroad at the World Wildlife Fund of Portugal as their education department intern. He developed educational documents for teachers to use in the classroom on topics in their curriculum related to Ecology and Environmental Conservation. These documents are going into their monthly newsletter and will be sent across Portugal. Joseph has family from Portugal, so he's enjoyed getting to explore it during his time there!

We are so proud (and jealous) of what our Access community is doing over summer break!
