Farm Field Trips are the best! We always have so much fun when students visit the farm and get a hands on experience in the company of a master organic farmer: Joseph Fields himself. Students of enjoyed the outdoors while learning about organic farming, meeting the Fields family and listening the history of the farm. They also harvested produce and prepared a meal using the fresh veggies and fruits. They had a blast and a meaningful experience that will eventually offer a deeper understanding of healthy eating habits and sustainable practices. Special thanks to for all the support to make this space happen for our Charleston’s youth. Have a blessed day y’all!

This time we talked about living and non living things; recognize the needs of the living things and aligned it with the plants to learn how to feed them. Exploring and learning with a hands-on experience.

Join us for a weekend workshop on May 29th and 30th. We will learn about the process of how to start a school/community organic garden, to maintaining the garden and successfully growing plants such as fruits and vegetables. We will explore about how to integrate standards of education in a garden curriculum; to provide a good “backbone” structure that incorporates academics to the outdoors, enriching learning with meaningful experiences. A garden offers an environment full of “teachable moments” and tons of “concrete learning” helping young minds to understand “challenging processes” in easy ways. A school garden help students to feel more connected to themselves( by finding healthier and happier ways to live), more connected to others (by working and learning together) and more connected to the environment (by being an active participant in helping and protecting it). During real life situations presented in a garden, teachers and mentors can create the perfect space to gift the student’s young brains with the chance to developing multiple intelligences while creating healthy eating habits, powerful relationships, especially with the environment, and healthier socio-emotional practices. For more information email us at: [email protected] or RSVP at our webpage at Earth (dash) heartgrowers.org | Scholarship are provided for Title I teachers. Limited spots | RSVP before May 20th.

Today’s garden lesson : “Accept what it is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be” with spring around the corner we are assessing our winter crops and cleaning up some beds. We learned that in our garden is important to let go of the old plants to create space for the new season planting! We are now harvesting broccoli, cauliflower, scallions, parsley, cilantro and other! We realized that we can also learn from the garden little tips that can help us in our own life’s; Where in our live do we need to let go of the past or the old stories to move forward and, to create space for better things to come?

Please, let us know if you would like to help! Email us at [email protected] . Thank you 😊
