We're going to have so much fun tonight! Hope to see you there!
Some STEP workshop videos with Ms. Jordan from The Gaillard Center.
2nd-4th grade enjoyed the second to last performance ever of Step Afrika on Thursday. This amazing show tells the story of the 1739 Stono Slave Rebellion through music and STEP dancing. It was amazing!
Friday those students got to participate in a workshop with Ms. Jordan. They learned some basic STEP moves and chants. It was impactful learning about a horrible moment in history and some of the good that came out of it.
While you don't need to sign up to attend our Family Literacy Night this Monday, PTO would love your help! Here's a reminder to sign up for our Family Literacy Night this coming Monday, November 5. We know everyone has candy and fun costumes on their mind, but we're already thinking about pie! Have you heard about the November class attendance challenge?
Several of our young Wildcats play on these teams, and it looks like it will be a beautiful morning tomorrow!
Our Character Parade is this Friday. We can't wait to see everyone's book character costumes! Parents are welcome to come watch and then stay for Coffee with the Principal.

Although we know we're excellent, MZES is celebrating moving from 'average' to 'good' on our SC Report Card. We've been working hard and look forward to continued official improvement. Check out report cards here: https://screportcards.com/overview/?q=eT0yMDIzJnQ9RSZzaWQ9MTAwMTA5NQ
"Hi parents! After school clubs begin tomorrow and here are some details you will need to know. If your student has signed up and returned a permission slip, they will stay after school tomorrow (Tuesday, October 10th). Please pick your child up no later than 4:50 in the car loop in the back of the school. Do not attempt to pick up by the front office/cafeteria, as this is reserved for Kaleidoscope pick up. It's going to be great!
(After school clubs will meet twice a month on the following Tuesdays: 10/10, 10/24, 11/14, 11/28, 12/12)"
One of the many benefits of having a PE teacher full time is her ability to help support Wildcat wellness with extra activities like a morning walking club. Each grade (1st-5th) will compete to see who can walk the farthest!
Many thanks to Books and Beyond for the free book fair they sponsored for our Wildcats. While we frequently do book giveaways to build home libraries, this event allowed our students to shop, like a traditional book fair, for brand new books to keep at home. The best part? Books and Beyond was super easy to work with, set up and tore down the event in one day, and promoted reading for pleasure to all our students!! Ms. Haertel can't wait to work with them again!
VOCAL Voices Of CCSD's Amazing Librarians
Many thanks to Books and Beyond for hosting an amazing book fair for our Wildcats! Every student, Head Start through 5th grade, got to shop and pick from a fabulous selection of books and take two home for FREE! There's nothing better than that new book smell. Enjoy reading, Wildcats!
We love to see our little Wildcats!

Tomorrow is futbol day for our Hispanic Heritage Dress Down week. We will also be welcoming members of the St. John's High School football team for lunch! If you don't have a futbol (soccer) jersey, consider wearing Islander colors (red, white and blue) to school. If students wear Islander gear or colors to the football game tomorrow night, they get a free ticket!
A message from Anna Mims:
Families and community members, this special edition of the newsletter is going out to families via our other communication channels, and I wanted to make sure that any family members who don't receive the weekly callout messages also received this newsletter.
We will send out our regular edition of the Wildcat Weekly tomorrow evening.

Good morning Mt. Zion families. Due to not having assigned devices at home, the inability to distribute materials at school, and the awareness of many families in lockdown, we will have very minimal eLearning requirements today. We do not want to add to any stress caused by this event. We encourage our students to read throughout the day and will be sending out a special edition of the Wildcat Weekly today with optional activities for learning at home. These activities will not require any devices or special materials. We will also share information about how to let us know if your family would benefit from counseling support in light of the ongoing events on Johns Island. Stay safe, Mt. Zion families!
Buenos dĂas familias de Mt. Zion. ÂĄMantĂ©ngase a salvo, Mt. Zion familias!
SO many FUN events in September & October!!
