Repping my sweatshirt to remind myself that actually… rest IS productive.

I am doing about a million and one things these days between parenting, grad school, running a small business, a part time job and well… just the normally ordinary stuff that it takes to be a human. I am feeling run down and honestly feel like I am hanging on by a thread. In the past I would always shame myself for not being able to do more and “power through” but with many years of therapy under my belt and a lot of self compassion I have come to a place where I try to see myself through kinder eyes.

“You’re tired because it’s hard work”
“You are hurting because it hurts”
“Of course you feel burnt out, look at everything you are doing!”
“What do you need and how can you ask others for help today?”

These are things I have gotten in the habit of telling/ asking myself.

So even though my to- do list still seems a mile long. I am going to add “rest” to my list and then check it off later because everything on that list requires me to rest first.

I had the best time teaching my “Introduction to the Enneagram” workshop last night

I am so thankful for Sylvia opening up her beautiful shop to host and give me the opportunity to share my passion with others and to help people better understand themselves and others.

Let me know if you want me to do a workshop for you and your company or small group. I can personalize my workshop to meet your companies needs and teach small and large groups.

A little mountain getaway this weekend with dear friends. Love starting my day reading and looking at the mountains. Richard Rohr has been a long time favorite author of mine. Have you read any of his books? What are you reading these days?

Did my Introduction to the Enneagram workshop with students at this morning and had so much fun doing it!! So thankful for the chance to share my passion with these students and help them learn about themselves. Sundays are my favorite. This space is where we meet with Jesus on Sunday morning usually after being used the night before for a nightclub, dance floor, or concert space for many people who might not ever walk through the doors of a church. Either because they were hurt by someone in the church, rejected by the church at large, or made to feel less than in some way. When we walk in to set up each Sunday, I think about these people. As I walk on the sticky floor and pick up discarded pieces of tickets or glitter or confetti I think about the people who share this space with us week in and week out.

I pray for them.
I pray for them to know love.
I pray for them to know acceptance.
I pray for them to know their worth not because of anything they have done but just by being a human wonderfully made by a father who loves them desperately.

Church can be a hard place. Church can be a place of incredible pain and heartache. I hate that it’s true but it is.

I also know that church can be a place of healing. It can be a place of love like you’ve never known. It can be a place where you find community and people to live life with shoulder to shoulder. People who will hold you when your broken and celebrate you when you take exciting new steps.

Church will never be perfect. Because the church has people. And people are imperfect. But I also know that my life is richer, fuller, and better by gathering with people in this space every Sunday and learning about how to follow Jesus and be more like him. I will mess up. I will get it wrong. But these people will be with me and say “it’s ok… let’s try again tomorrow”

Time is a thief. ❤️

This is me in my car after I pulled into my driveway after one of the hardest days I have had a long time but ALSO…. A day that ended with so much goodness.

The morning was hard, tears were shed, busses almost missed, work was challenging for a myriad of reasons, technology was not my friend literally all day and it seemed like anything that could go wrong did.

BUT…..

I went to dinner and drinks with a friend. The waitress messed up my drink order so I got 2 for the price of one. She also overheard me telling my friend what a really hard time I have been having and she BOUGHT ME FREAKING DESSERT!!

We then went and saw one of my favorite bands at which is normally reserved as my happy place on Sunday (my church uses this venue on Sunday mornings) but it became sacred space in a new and different way tonight because I was able to see the goodness of the world and be totally surrounded by the sheer joy and happiness that live shows always seem to illicit.

You are allowed to have hard days. You are allowed to cry. You are allowed to tell others that things are hard because when you do… the world has a way of showing off how good it can really be.

I am so thankful for today. I am thankful for the highs and lows and the reminders no matter what, I am never alone. I am surrounded by friends and strangers alike who want to support me and I in turn pray that I can bless others around me the way I was blessed tonight.

FRIDAY FAVORITE!!

This weeks Friday favorite is a bit of a combo. I have shared several books in previous posts but today is about more than just books. It’s about making SPACE to read them and giving myself time and permission to do things that are important to keep me healthy.

The biggest thing I have done for my health in the past few years is prioritizing time ALONE. Putting it in my calendar and scheduling it. Not just seeing what time is left over but actually making appointments with myself and not letting myself back out of them.

Lately one of my favorite ways to do this is to find a coffee shop that is quiet and go during the slower hours (after the morning rush and before the lunch time 2nd cup crew)

Sitting in a coffee shop and reading or journaling alone and savoring my coffee and food is like a safe haven for me. It fills my soul and helps me to make space for things that my brain and my body and my being have been trying to tell me all week but I’ve been to busy to listen.

Spending time alone used to be PAINFUL and HARD but the more I have practiced… the more I have craved that time to identify and tend to my own needs and to give myself time and space to feel things. It helps me to give myself grace and compassion and makes me better when I return to my family.

Do you like alone time? Where is your favorite place to be alone?

My heart is heavy. My soul is too. Seeing the news breaks my heart but it feels selfish to isolate myself into a tiny and safe bubble (which is what I want to do). I am practicing holding space for the heartache of the world while also caring for myself and my own heart and doing what is best for me so I can care for my people well. There are so many things about the world that will never make sense to me this side of heaven. So many things that make anger rise up inside me. I am imperfect and don’t know what to do or what to say but I am doing my best to find ways to try and hold the ugliness and the beauty of the world simultaneously.

When tragedy strikes as it seems to almost on a daily basis these days, I always find myself searching for the humanity that always seems to shine through. People who always find a way to be the helpers to mourn with those who mourn and to bring comfort to those brought to their knees in pain and agony. I am always searching for a way to be a helper, to bring whatever peace can be offered and I hope that together we can help one another to find glimpses of light in a word that seems like it is covered in darkness. I pray for the light in each of us to shine bright enough that those whose lights have been dimmed can find us and borrow our light until theirs is restored.

FRIDAY FAVORITE!

I had to get my wedding and engagement rings cut off to be resized because my fingers are slightly bigger now than they were when we purchased them 10 years ago.

My husband bought this silicone ring from for me and I love it so much. It’s been great for the warmer weather and is beautiful and easy to clean all the sunscreen off since we are now at the pool or beach almost every day. I can’t wait to get my original rings back but loving this one to have for the summer months!

FRIDAY FAVORITE!!

It has taken me much longer than I would like to admit to read this book because it is literally a TEXT BOOK that is FULL of amazing data and information surrounding trauma but also beautiful stories of redemption and hope. Some of it was triggering for me and so I had to take it in very tiny doses but I finally finished this week and I can’t recommend it enough for people who are doing hard work trying to work through childhood wounds, trauma, and deal with mental and physical illness (because trauma goes hand in hand with those things)

This will be one of those books that I pull off of my shelf for reference over and over again and I am so thankful for all the work that went into collecting all the data and information and sharing the stories of the people who have found hope through treatment and putting into one book. Thank you to for writing
