Our Story

Chandra Dance Academy’s mission is to endow education and tradition of the ancient art of Kathak through a fresh, and youthful perspective. While keeping consistent with the ancient style, we add a modern athleticism and flair. Our focus is to perfect the Nritta, Nritya, and Natya aspects of Kathak through dedicated training. Words we live by- “Think Beautifully, Live Beautifully, Dance Beautifully”.

Brittny Chandra, Founder and Director, hails from Jaipur Gharana. She is an internationally recognized Kathak dancer, that has made her own way to fame in this industry. Brittny has learned from some of the greats, including Guru Pandit Rajendra Ganagani ji, Pandit Birju Maharaj ji, Guru Maneesha Sathe ji, who is a disciple of Pandit Natraj Gopi Krishna ji. University.

Brittny has obtained her Visharad Purna (Bachelor’s degree) from Bharati Vidyapeeth University (Pune, India) and has graduated with Distinction. She has danced on many stages, and was selected to perform at the world famous New York Kathak Festival with some of the greatest Kathak dancers of our time, including Pandit Birju Maharaj ji.

She is also a graduate of Auburn University with her Bachelor’s in Psychology, Master’s in Education, and she is a member of the National Association of Schools of Dance. Brittny has been dancing since she was five in various forms of dance such as hip hop, ballet, tap, and jazz.
