Safe gun storage required by law
Dear parent or guardian:
Texas law now requires school districts to distribute information to parents and guardians about the safe storage of fi****ms. The information here will help you learn about options for, as well as how to talk to your child and others about, the safe storage of fi****ms.
In 2021, 4,613 Texans experienced gun-related deaths. The Texas Department of State Health Services (SHS) reports that 55% of Texas fi****ms deaths in 2020 were su***des and that 59% of all su***des in Texas were by fi****ms. Su***de attempts involving fi****ms have a 90% fatality rate. Restricting access to guns is critical in reducing acts of violence, whether as self-harm or toward others. Acts of mass violence and interpersonal violence often end in su***de.
It is unlawful to store, transport or abandon an unsecured firearm in a place where children are likely to be and can obtain access to the firearm. Under Texas Penal Code 46.13, a person commits the offense of making a firearm accessible to a child if the child gains access to a readily dischargeable firearm, and the person with criminal negligence:
• Failed to secure the firearm; or
• Left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access
The penalty for allowing a child access to a firearm can range from a Class C misdemeanor (punishable by a $500 fine) to a Class A misdemeanor (punishable by a $4,000 fine, a year in jail, or a combination of the two).
Texas exempts the purchase of firearm safety equipment from Texas Sales and Use Tax.
Remember, a gun should be stored unloaded in a safe or locked container, with ammunition stored elsewhere. You can learn more and find additional resources from the Texas Department of Public Safety at https://safegunstoragetexas.com.
Safe gun storage is critical to preventing su***de, unintentional shootings and other tragedies.

Congratulations to Brynlee Bowdoin and Destiny Robinson who recently participated in the Lone Star Leadership Academy! They were nominated by their teachers and selected for their hard work and leadership skills.

Outstanding Texas Students Develop Leadership Skills
Through Lone Star Leadership Academy

Keller, Texas – Education in Action is proud to recognize 710 outstanding Texas students who participated in the 2026 Lone Star Leadership Academies, weeklong, overnight leadership programs that help students build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, and explore Texas history, government, culture, and careers.
Each participant earned the opportunity to attend through an educator nomination for the Lone Star Leader Award, which recognizes students for leadership potential, academic achievement, and school and community involvement. Throughout the Academies, students developed essential leadership skills while building confidence and forming friendships with other high-achieving students from across Texas.

Lunch is also free!
Hugs and Kisses at the door, we will help your child to the classroom, cafeteria, or gym.
Be patient with bus routes as times will be adjusting with the adding and removing bus stops.
Be patient with car line and have those tags visible.
Tags that were not given or picked up at Meet the Teacher will be going home in your child's backpack.
If you do not have a tag, please have your ID ready!

Hey Cougar fans if you purchased reserved seats at the stadium you need to contact the admin office and let them know if you would like to keep your seats or let them go. Any seats that are not claimed by August 14th will no longer be reserved.
