The Inaugural dinner was intended to increase awareness about the organization's mission, purpose, and to generate funding towards the associations cause. With nearly two hundred alumni members in attendance, we were successful.

Meet President!
Larry D. Odoms
Odoms has had a distinguished coaching career for forty years. He is well known by many of his students and colleagues alike and is often cited as one of the most endeared educators. Born in Jersey City, Larry attended P.S. #12 and is an Alumni of Lincoln High School. He is a graduate of New Jersey City University where he received his Masters of Arts Degree in Education with a principal’s certification in Administration and Supervision. His lifelong commitment to the betterment of youth began in 1975 with his career at the Jersey City Board of Education’s Drug, Education, and Prevention Program.
In 1984, he served as the District Substance Awareness Coordinator. He spent time traveling around the State of New Jersey giving presentations to teens and parents about the perils of substance abuse and the need for strategic measures of prevention. Later, he accepted a position as Administrator of Snyder High School’s Freshman Academy. He also served as Vice Principal at P.S. #39 and eventually returned to his alma mater, Lincoln High School in 1992. He remained there until 2002, when asked to serve as one of the Educational Team Administrators at Henry Snyder High School. He was appointed Principal of The Academy of Arts at Snyder High School from 2007 until 2010. Thereafter he accepted the Principal’s position at Liberty High School. Under his tutelage, Liberty High School has gained recognition in the 2013 U.S. News and World Report as an “Honorable Mention” or Bronze school in Hudson County.
Larry’s inspiring voice resounded not only within the halls of Lincoln, Snyder and liberty High Schools, but also on track and field courses across the Northeast region. His love of track led him to an equally long-standing career as Boys and Girls track and field coach at both Lincoln and Snyder High Schools. The following citations are among many honors he has received as track coach:
- Two State Sectional Championships 1994 & 1996
- Nationals second fastest time with Snyder’s Girls 4 x 1 mi. relay at Harvard Univ’s Indoor Eastern State Championship (Track & Field News, Spring 1981)
- Nationals third fastest time with Snyder’s Boys Sprint Medley Team 1996
In 2004, Larry was inducted into the Hudson County Track Coaches Association, Hall of Fame.
On and off the field, many of his students affectionately know him simply Mr. O, a name that is synonymous with an innovative talk show called street Corner Dialogue.” Serving as the show’s facilitator, Larry guided students’ discussions on neighborhood and community development and highlighted their unique responsibilities as future leaders. He also served as cable TV talk show host for “what Kids Say”, and interviewed actor, Derek Luke, singers Omareon, Franchise Boys, and seven time tony award winner Reginald Gaines, the musical and arranging director for “Bring in the Noise, Bring in the Funk.”
Larry has been recognized by numerous organizations for his commitment to education, youth and community service. The following citations are among many honors he has received:
- 1999-Office of the Mayor-Rev. Elijah Hendon Award for outstanding teaching
- 2004 -Urban League of Hudson County “It Takes a Village” award
- 2004-The NAACP Andrew Young Award for Leadership
- 2004-The African American Industrial Club Award
- 2006 -Steppers Chill Town Community Service Award
- 2007-Dr. Charles Epps, Sr. Memorial Educational Service Award
- 2008-Rev. James v. Pagnotta Humanitarian Award -2008-Uniformed Fire Fighters Association of Jersey City IAFF Community Service Leadership Award
Larry is the son of Sallie and the late George Odoms and is one of four brothers. He is married to Evelyn Dawson-Odoms, his high school sweetheart. They live in Edison, NJ and have two daughters. Alanah Odoms-Hebert, Esq. is on special assignment as Deputy General Counsel for the Louisiana Supreme Court. She resides in New Orleans, LA with her husband, Dr. Corey Hebert, and La’Nyia is a medical student at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN.
As President and Founder of the Lincoln High School Alumni Association, Larry devoted equal time to supporting endeavors that provide scholarships to college bound students and mentor the youth. His gold years will be spent with his family, playing golf and traveling.
