The FDA learned about Red No. 3's risk of causing cancer in 1980, almost 45 years ago, before putting the ban into full effect as of 2025. The synthetic dye has been either banned or severely restricted by nations of the European Union for some time as well as Japan and Australia.

8 dried figs

Directions:
Prepare the Crust:
In a food processor, pulse walnuts a few times until they are broken down. Add figs, cacao, cinnamon, sea salt, and orange zest. Blend until the mixture comes together into a sticky base.
Press the mixture evenly into the base of an 8-inch springform round cake tin. Chill in the fridge while preparing the filling.
Make the Beetroot Layer:
In a double boiler, gently melt the coconut butter with coconut oil.
Add the grated beetroot, orange zest, almond milk, and maple syrup to the melted mixture and blend until smooth. The mix will be thick.
Spread this beetroot layer smoothly over the crust.
Freeze to Set:
Place the cake in the freezer for at least 1 hour to set.
