“We have piled onto our children stress upon stress, pressure upon pressure, standardized test upon standardized test. There is no evidence that this has helped our children’s learning for their futures, but we keep doing it, year after year, to millions upon millions of children the world over”

How can we make the necessary changes possible? Especially in this country where children on average spend less outdoor time everyday than prisoners due to fear of our children not doing well enough academically, fear of schools to lose funding due to low test scores, and the fear of parents’ that their children might be getting hurt when playing outside?

Despite clear announcements from the CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics and National Academy of Medicine- for years and years- highlighting the importance of play and outdoor time- we are cutting both of these elements out of our children’s lives, at the expense of their well being and future success.

To Really Learn, Our Children Need the Power of Play The U.S. can learn a big lesson from Finland’s education system: Instead of stress and standardized testing, schools should focus on well-being and joy​
