MIX Magazine (Iconic leader for the recording studio world the past 40 years or so), Posted a very unique conference yesterday about the future of listening and audio in the”IMMERSIVE” or 3D- 360 “Surround World”. The speaking panels consisted of the finest in the industry. He was held at one of the finest recording studios in the world, known as “The Power Station”. There were maybe 100 to 150 attendees. I was invited by the very unique “Sound Particles” company. I had a chance to have a reunion with some long-term associates into also made some really wonderful people especially from the Berklee College of music. There was much discussion about the Dolby ATMOS 7.1.4 Sound System (Which they had on display in the big recording studio rooms as you can see in the top photo.)

Several engineers who work with pop star and Grammy Host “Alicia Keys” (Who was born around the corner in this neighborhood, which coincidentally is the same neighborhood by for a swim and when I came to New York just in my graduate school at Juilliard!) Then amazing Bob Clearmountain headed a panel(Engineer for the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin and many many more,) and he discussed a lot of issues that he deals with placing lead singers in instruments in to the 3-D world when he remixes songs.

Surround audio certainly sound amazing and hopefully someday it’ll be portable for the masses!
I have a mixing in surround sound since 1979. I have taught many courses in electronic music where we did the same between 2005 and 2012. I learned a great deal yesterday!

I extend a special thanks Tom Kenny the editor of Mix Magazine who I had the pleasure to meet, (he is in a far right in the lower photo, Bob Clearmountain has a dark shirt on in the center,) and to the wonderful folks at Berklee College for the kind hospitality!

10 years ago today I had the amazing honor to produce a concert on top an ACTIVE United States Aircraft Carrier LIVE on SIRIUS XM national radio, docked in the NYC harbor for “FLEET WEEK”!

The band consisted of 3 college students and 2 amazing solo artists who my company has bleeped to manage. 2 of the students were in the Music Technology program I created, at Stevens Institute Of Technology.

While I was inside a radio studio at Sirius XM‘s headquarters in New York City a woman was telling what she does to help young soldiers who just completed their term and could not find a job in America. She was a philanthropist named Cynthia Artin. I just finished my very special 20 song DVD which I titled”Smart Trax®️“ I was given a very rare award by the head of the United States department of justice for creating “positive messages through music“ for the youth of the nation, and this DVD was a sampling of the project I have been working on for 20 years.

She boldly turned to me and said that she wanted me to produce “PROJECT ELEVEN”! With obvious curiosity I asked what she meant? She said encourage 11 college age bands across America to each right one song to give tribute to our soldiers who have either risked or lost their lives since 9/11, and, release it on 11/11/11 “VETERANS DAY”, and give all the proceeds if any to the “Wounded Warriors” foundation

If you came to my studios next day and met the executors of my student run record company who have recently run out of money to do anything commercial because no one buys music anymore. They quickly jumped on this and took it on to be the project for this year with great furver. We actually launched it on 11/11/11 at 11:11 am The concert on our campus.

In January 2012 I got a bizarre phone call from a new attorney at the campus asking if this was a nonprofit venture. And with pride I responded yes it is it’s helping our soldiers. She shut down our record company! (This has one of many many unique circumstances I witnessed with the upper administration over the years, The President of the University was recently fired, which I had nothing to do with, you can go and Google it to find out the reasonings.)

Moving forward on a “positive note“ in May 2012 I was approached by Me. Webb who is the host of this radio program with his opportunity and these five amazing musicians decided to form a band for the event. There is another band that my friend Mark Barash was managing who joined in. Now to add some frustration to the venture because it supposed to be about goodness, the day before Mr. Webb came to my studio and was frantic because he said that the United States Navy didn’t have a sound system and that if you wanted to do the show we now have to pay like $11,000 for a sound system. So the three of us as producers had to split that and pay cash to make this event happen. I had no problem because it’s for our soldiers but the principle here was definitely to be questioned !

On Saturday of memorial weekend it happened, and one hour before the ship lost electricity and we could not do a proper soundtrack! Fortunately I hired the best LIVE sound engineer, Mr. Rob Harari, who I had also hired and groomed to become a professor in my program. We pulled it off with just is a couple of minor glitches due to the circumstance, and it was a great honor for the students and a wonderful tribute to our well deserving soldiers!

Every single one of these musicians is particular, and I can only wish them well in their careers today as they move forward in the entertainment industry!

Did you know… back in 1987…

Reflecting in 1987 on my early days in the high end world of Synthesis, I was showing budding now master composer Wayne Sharpe, how to use the state of the art and very expensive New England Digital “Synclavier I” synthesizer. It was the first commercially available digital sampler and could easily cost a couple hundred thousand dollars. I’ll neither most major pop stars, or film scoring studios could afford one. This one is sitting in my employers facility on Madison Avenue and 23rd in Manhattan, in the heart of the TV commercial creation district. It was owned by the amazing now New Age synthesist, Suzanne Cianni. She was the queen of synthesizer programming in the 80s and I could not believe that had the opportunity to be her assistant.

https://www.sevwave.com/

I was trained by the incredible Greg La Porta who works for the company. Greg Wayne and I were graduates other very rare and extremely prestigious “Tonmeister” Audio engineering program at the state university of New York in Fredonia located in southwestern New York State. It was only one of three programs in the nation in the early 80s it was extremely difficult to get into. It was actually founded by my mentor Vince Murat and then taken over by another mentor the amazing Dave Moulton founder of the Golden Ears program. Professor Moulton won the most prestigious award in education at the audio engineering convention a few years ago!

The first job Suzanne gave me was to read a piece of sheet music and play it on my Yamaha DX seven into mark of the unicorns performer version 1.0 on my Mac, and then to give her back AMERITA on the floppy disk. She was the first composer in history to have a midi file published. The Hal Leonard music publishing company publish a book for her album “THE VELOCITY OF LOVE”, an attached to floppy disc in a plastic envelope to the back of it with the sequencer file. I’m the musician who actually played the notes for the secret cer for the first publish in history. How cool is that?

Main has gone on to do many great things in the world of composing. The mess America pageant theme, the miss universe theme, tons of TV commercial scores, the score for the first Omnimax film for the largest Omnimax theater in The world. Number one movies in Bollywood India. And even the NBC national evening news them right now. Who would’ve ever thought?

HEY CD BUYING FANS!

This is totally ridiculous. Look what the robot at CD Baby sent me. About 18 years ago I released a second album for the dynamic brother and sister act named MJ Medina. I can’t remember how many hundred that was shipped off to CD Baby, which was at the time a place where people go online and order CDs. But who buy CDs anymore right? So they tell me, are you ready for this, they have… Give me a drumroll… A grand total of… One CD on the shelf taking up space. They want to know if I wanna pay for shipping to have it returned or if it should be “recycled“ for free. How bizarre is this ??
