Franklin School

We’re officially kicking off a new school year at Franklin. This week, we welcomed faculty and staff back to campus for a thoughtfully designed orientation centered on the pillars that shape our work — innovation, community, and teaching and learning.

Through a series of conversations, workshops, and collaborative sessions, our faculty and staff spent the week reconnecting, sharing ideas, and preparing for the year ahead — with a continued focus on creating meaningful experiences for our students.

The 2026-27 school year is just beginning, and we can’t wait to get started.

Atharva '28 attended the MINDS (Medical Internship Navigating and Discovering Science) Program at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.

"During the program, the interns and I learned more about the medical field, networked with medical professionals across all fields, received CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed, and emergency birth delivery training, and participated in numerous medical simulations. We also had the opportunity to tour and learn about pre-med undergraduate programs offered by prestigious educational institutions like Princeton University. The program culminated in a capstone presentation, where my partner and I got to present our research on how environmental factors and social determinants impact fetal development and gene expression alongside our peers at the closing ceremony this past week."

Andrea '28 attended a Harvard pre-college program, taking Who Lives, Who Dies — a Social Medicine class that was taught by a Harvard Medical School lecturer.

“Throughout my time spent at the Harvard Pre-College Program, I learned a lot about how access to healthcare is about more than just biology; there are also social factors that influence it. This further solidified my interest in Global Health and Social Medicine in the future!”

Phillip '28 attended the Explore Engineering Innovation summer program at Johns Hopkins University's Whiting School of Engineering.

"Being there for four weeks was a great experience. I learned from many professors teaching various areas of engineering, including physics, chemistry, and mathematics, and I worked on projects such as Spaghetti Bridge testing, electronics, and lab work. It gave me a real sense of the course load a freshman engineering student would have."

Ben ’27 spent part of his summer at Boston College, where he enrolled into a course exploring the intersection of psychology, creativity, and the arts.

"Going straight into a college-level course at Boston College for two weeks was definitely an adjustment, but it was an incredible experience. I learned from an amazing professor, challenged myself academically, and came away feeling more prepared for the transition to college."

Taylor '28 explored a creative path through the Cooper Union Summer Art Intensive, where she developed her craft in both animation and drawing under the guidance of exceptional instructors Casey Gallagher (Animation) and Bahar Behbahani (Drawing).

Throughout the program, she built technical skills in visual storytelling, movement, and observational drawing — all culminating in the 2026 Exhibition on August 5, where her work was proudly displayed alongside her peers'.

Quinn '27 spent his summer at Syracuse University, studying Business Communications.

Of the experience, he reflected "I learned many life skills such as managing my LinkedIn account, public speaking, and preparing for job interviews. I was purposely put in uncomfortable positions and learned how to use various public speaking techniques when put in those situations."

Saraya '28 took part in an Impact Innovation course at the Fordham Summer Leaders Academy focused on social entrepreneurship, combining interpersonal and technical skills.

"Through this program, I learned a lot about what it means to understand the whole person and delved deeper into decision-making and the tools that support it, from an entrepreneurial standpoint."
