Better late than never, our Fine Arts Student of the Month for December is Sajay Rogers!!!

Sajay was nominated from the drama department, but also participates in choir! She has been in drama for three years, was in the J-Town Sound choir for two years, and just joined Show Choir this year! Sajay’s favorite part about drama is the people, and she loves coming together to create something amazing with her peers. Some advice she has for anyone wanting to join Drama is to go all out! Don’t be scared, and just do your best. Drama has changed Sajay’s life because it has made her way more confident in herself and her abilities, as it’s something she’s good at, it makes her feel talented and accomplished. Her favorite drama activity is definitely the yearly competition against other schools, specifically in the ensemble categories, so she can work with her friends and use her competitive spirit to make it to state! Her favorite character she’s played is the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, because she got to sing songs she loves and ride on a Segway in a Victorian dress, who wouldn’t want to do that? Her favorite competition piece she’s done was Matchmaker with Ella Baker and Addimae Ellis, because their choreography was super in sync and their props were phenomenal, and handmade! We are so happy to have Sajay as part of the Fine Arts department, and can’t wait to see what she does next!

Our Fine Arts Student of the Month for November (though a little bit late) is…. Paige Martin!!!

Paige is being recognized for her amazing work during Honor Choir last weekend! Paige has been doing choir since her second semester of freshman year. Her favorite part of choir is the people she meets and the friends she has in there, along with the music they’re all able to make together. If anyone is wanting to join choir, some advice she has for that is to join the more advanced choirs as the people in there are dedicated to the program. She also says to make sure to put in the effort because if you don’t, you’ll never know what you are fully capable of. Paige’s life has been impacted by choir because she has made countless memories in a never ending positive environment there. Her favorite song she’s ever performed for choir is “May It Be” from Lord of the Rings. Thank you Paige for all of your hard work!!

Our Fine Arts Student of the Month for October is Amaya Herting!! Amaya is a freshman who was nominated from the Humanities department for her excellent work! Some things Amaya loves doing in her Humanities class is free-style projects, and she’s also learned that sometimes “it’s never that serious”. Some fun facts about Amaya are that she loves snowboarding and tennis, and one day she wants to go to college for engineering to hopefully work on satellites one day! Keep up the amazing work Amaya!

Our Fine Arts Student of the Month for September isssss… Orion Walker!

Orion is a sophomore this year, and has been doing band since 8th grade. He is in Percussion Ensemble, and plays various instruments depending on what Mr. Fukuoka is envisioning for the piece. For the upcoming football game he will be playing the tenor drum, but his favorite to play is break drum. His favorite part about band is playing music he enjoys and the group trips they take. One piece of advice Orion would give to someone wanting to join band is that it can definitely be a challenge, but if you’re willing to put in effort in and outside of class it’ll be a breeze. Since joining band, Orion has gained a much deeper love for music, especially in the playing aspect of it.
Keep up the great work Orion!!

Now we’re going to move onto Mr. Fukuoka!

Mr. Fukuoka is now on his 13th year of teaching, and teaches at both the high school and the middle school! This includes ALL the band/instrument related classes! From Percussions, Guitar, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Percussion Band, and more, he has a very busy schedule. One quote Mr. Fukuoka wanted to share is a quote in Japanese that roughly translates to, “There’s strength in simply showing up and doing your thing - be proud of that.”

We love you Mr. Fukuoka!!
