Financial literacy is important skill for young people to learn! This past year we spent several classes discussing financial planning with all of our students. One helpful tool was the Bank of America's "Financial Literacy Challenge." A local branch manager from BOA came out a few times to work with the kids, and we also had Dakota Fluhr discuss coins, coin collecting, and investing in precious metals.

The students that completed the program earned prizes for things like highest credit score, highest quality of life, most savings, nicest apartment, etc. Our top finishers received .999 silver coins to start their investment portfolios!!! One of our students, Arriana S., finished 156th place over all (out of over 1550 participants in our region)!!

About the Financial Skills Challenge:
In the Financial Skills Challenge, your students experience two different game modes. First, they will be college students with part-time jobs, and then half way through the game, they graduate and get their first full-time jobs. On top of experiencing the difference between sharing the cost of rent with roommates to living on their own and having larger bills; they will see what it feels like to suddenly have health insurance and student loan bills to pay.

Students must learn how to balance their savings goals with their fixed and variable (unexpected) expenses.

The main objectives of the game are to build an emergency savings fund, setting and keeping a savings goal, build your credit score while maintain a healthy quality of life. https://www.financialskillschallenge.com/

We’re adding a real kitchen 🔪👩🏽‍🍳⏲️🥘🍚!!!
Over the past two years, our girls have learned a plethora of domestic skills during our life skills classes. One struggle has been trying to utilize the tiny kitchenette for instruction in cooking and food prep. In our new space, we will have a full kitchen with ample room for lessons and plenty of space for the girls to spread out in the attached dining room!!! Will you help us grow?!?

Those that know me know that there is nothing that I love more than a good deal! Just about everything in the Academy comes from government surplus auctions (universities, grade schools, govt. offices, etc.). Sometimes I have to drive upwards of 100 miles to pick up a these great finds! In God’s providence, the renovations of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library’s children’s area (.5 miles away) perfectly coincided with ours, and SKA is more than grateful to gives these items a new home. Like the Jeffersons, we’re MOVING ON UP! This is the admin building that is attached to the church that we currently rent. The 3rd floor houses Sovereign King Academy. We are undergoing a massive renovation of the fourth floor which, in a few short months, will house our middle school and our freshly added high school (9th and 10th grade).
