We had our first event on June 28th. We went out to Spring Lake for a picnic, fishing, swimming, and skating. We had a great time hanging out together. We had 5 adults helping out, Bailey Jones , Tasha Weeks, Josh Weeks , Mandy Jacobson , Chelse Elizabeth Sanderson! We had 11 kids who spent the afternoon with us. We look forward to our next event.

This summer, we're all about learning, giving back, growing, and — of course — having loads of fun! Whether you're a returning Defender or new to the team, we can't wait to see your bright smiles and bright ideas.

Ms. Jones, Ms. Chelse, and Ms. Weeks are super excited to kick off an unforgettable summer filled with exciting activities and meaningful experiences. Here’s to a season of growth, laughter, and making memories that last a lifetime! 🌟

Remi’s Defenders ventured out for a trip to Boone today! We went to the Gustafson’s Pumpkin Patch, Dutch Oven Bakery for a treat, played at the park, and finished with the main event: a train ride at Boone Scenic Valley Railroad! 8 kids joined us today. Some things to take away from today’s trip:
1. Learned the importance of honesty and integrity at the Pumpkin Patch. It was a self-serve, self-pay trailer and some kids asked how they know if everyone pays. We had a great conversation about integrity and doing what’s right when no one is looking!
2. More practice with life skills such as using manners when at a restaurant and ordering for yourself. All the kids ordered their own treat, and said please and thank you while doing so! We also had a few kids use their own money to purchase extra items, and got some practice with money skills.
3. On our train ride, the kids learned a lot about the history of Boone railroad and trains in general. More importantly, they learned the importance of being kind! A few kids were willing to completely trade seats with a group who had medical concerns, so that the group could sit closer to the entrance and tend to their needs. It was great to see them help others!

We love to see how many life skills and experiences we can provide while having a lot of fun. A great group of kids!

Welcome and thanks for checking out our page. Bailey Jones and I have started a wild adventure with a group of MS students, packing our summer with wacky activities. We kicked things off with Remi's Defenders in the early summer of 2023, and our first outing was a blast - we invaded B & B Theater in Ankeny, IA, to watch the movie Elemental! Wanting to strengthen relationships with all students who wanted to join in on some summer fun. Please check out our page for more information.
