Jefferson Junior High School students recently welcomed local Texas Game Wardens Kord Bradshaw and Cody Levy to campus. Warden Bradshaw enlisted additional help from fellow wardens Tanner Campbell, Daniel Kessler, and Daniel Roerback for a Hunter Education Field Day that blended career insight with hands-on training.

The wardens first spoke with students at both the High School and Jr. High campuses about their profession, the responsibilities that come with wearing the badge, and the educational path toward becoming a Texas Game Warden. On the High School campus, Game Wardens visited Principles of Agriculture classes to share their individual career paths and explain how their career choices have allowed them to serve Texas by protecting the state’s natural resources, wildlife, and outdoor heritage.

On the second day, they led 35 Jr. High students through field exercises designed to reinforce safety, ethics, and sound decision-making in the outdoors. All students successfully passed the state written test along with the field exam, becoming eligible for their required Basic Hunter’s Ed. Certification card. This is state law for anyone born after September 1, 1971, with few exceptions.

Jace Kline, a 7th grader at JJHS, said, “Hunter Education helped me learn how to be a safe and ethical hunter through learning where and how to shoot, how to handle a fi***rm and the rules of safety. It also helped me realize and know not only how to be an ethical hunter but also how to be an ethical and better person.”

Bryleigh Breckenridge, an eighth-grade student at Jefferson Junior High School, expressed her appreciation for the wardens and the opportunity to participate in the field training: “I am very grateful that they came and did all that for us so that we can be safe while hunting and be an ethical hunter.”

Bryleigh also reflected on the enjoyment of learning outdoors alongside her classmates: “This experience was very fun, informational, and I loved being able to be outside with my friends and learn about something I want to learn about.”

The lessons taught by these professionals reached beyond the field exercises, helping students understand that responsibility, integrity, and good judgment are qualities that carry into every aspect of life.

Outdoors Education Teacher Paul Cothren said, “I watched as the wardens caringly poured their personal experiences into the lives of our students, leaving an impact that will not soon be forgotten.”

During the field training, game wardens led students through structured demonstrations on safety routines, field procedures, and ethical decision-making. They explained the purpose of each rule, answered student questions, and supervised practice to reinforce the standards.

“On behalf of our students and families, thank you to Wardens Bradshaw, Levy, Campbell, Kessler, and Roerback. You showed our kids what service, steady judgment, and respect for the outdoors look like. Your presence mattered, and our students will carry that with them.”

🐾 Celebrating Our JMS Teacher of the Month – Aaron Godwin! 🐾

We are excited to recognize Mr. Aaron Godwin as our Teacher of the Month for October! Aaron is one of those special people who is constantly looking for ways to make our school—and the world around him—a little better.

Much of what Aaron does happens quietly behind the scenes, but his impact is anything but small. He genuinely cares about our students and staff and is always willing to step in, provide support, and help wherever he is needed. He notices needs that others may overlook and finds ways to meet them without ever looking for recognition.

Aaron brings that same spirit of care to our entire campus. He supports his own team, helps coworkers across the school, encourages students, and is a positive presence during lunch and transportation. Even when dealing with the difficult parts of the job, he manages to keep a positive attitude and bring energy and laughter to those around him.

One of Aaron's favorite reminders to our team is to “remember the 90%”—to focus on the 90% that is good instead of allowing the difficult 10% to overshadow it. That simple perspective has made a meaningful difference in our team and campus culture.

And, as the only man on a team full of women, he certainly deserves some recognition for surviving us! 😂 But truly, Aaron is much more than the guy who keeps us laughing. He is a role model of compassion, positivity, service, and genuine care for others.

Aaron doesn't help because he wants to be noticed. He helps because he sees a need and believes people matter. Today, we are shining a light on the many ways he makes Jefferson Middle School a better place.

❤️🩶 Congratulations, Mr. Godwin! We are grateful for all you do for our students, staff, and campus. You make a difference every single day! 🐾

JMS Students of the Month-October!

4th Grade-Madelyn Biddy

We are proud to recognize Madelyn Biddy as one of our Students of the Month! Maddie is a wonderful example of what it means to bust your tail from bell to bell. 🐾

Madelyn sets high expectations for herself and consistently works hard to meet them. She is a positive role model in the classroom, following Bulldog expectations and showing others what dedication and perseverance look like.

Her hard work is paying off! Maddie earned Mastery on her ECR and continues to demonstrate that preparation, studying, and determination make a difference. She approaches her work with a positive attitude and never complains about having to put in the effort.

Over the past few weeks, we have had the opportunity to watch Maddie grow, gain confidence, and thrive. Her commitment to doing her best and setting a high standard for herself is an example for those around her.

🐾 Bulldogs Bust Their Tails from Bell to Bell!

Congratulations, Maddie! We are so proud of your hard work, growth, and dedication. Keep raising the bar! ❤️🩶🐾

5th Grade Student-Peyton Munoz

We are proud to recognize Peyton as one of our Students of the Month! Peyton is an excellent example of what it means to be a respectful Bulldog.

Peyton is always willing to help her classmates and is quick to offer support when someone is confused or needs something explained in a different way. She also does a great job reminding her fellow students about classroom expectations and helping them stay on track.

Her willingness to step in, encourage others, and help her classmates be successful makes a positive impact on our classroom every day. Peyton leads by example and shows that being respectful means not only treating others well, but also helping those around you succeed.

🐾 Bulldogs are Respectful!

🎉 JJHS October Staff of the Month – Courtney Setliff! 🎉

Congratulations to Mrs. Courtney Setliff, our JJHS October Staff Member of the Month!
Mrs. Setliff was described by her coworkers as a “go-getter” whose positivity is contagious and someone who has truly been a lifeline to our campus. She consistently goes above and beyond, supports her coworkers, steps into whatever role is needed, and does it all with a positive attitude.

Whether she is taking on extra students, helping cover responsibilities when a teammate is absent, encouraging her students, or simply being there when another staff member needs a hand, Mrs. Setliff can always be counted on.

Courtney, thank you for your leadership, flexibility, encouragement, and willingness to do whatever is needed for our students and staff. You make JJHS a better place, and we are so thankful to have you as part of our Bulldog family!

❤️🐾 Congratulations, Mrs. Setliff! 🐾❤️

🐾 JJHS October Bulldog Way Students of the Month 🐾

We are proud to recognize our October Bulldog Way Students of the Month! These students were nominated by their teachers for the way they demonstrate the Bulldog Way through their hard work, respect, responsibility, character, and pride in our school.

6th Grade – Mckenzi Holt

Mckenzi is an outstanding example of the Bulldog Way! Her teacher describes her as extremely helpful and respectful, with a positive attitude that is contagious to those around her. Her example is so strong that other students have begun to follow her lead.

One moment that especially stood out was when Mckenzi noticed a classmate struggling with an assignment. Without being asked, she quietly went over to help. Instead of simply giving the student the answers, Mckenzi showed her where to find the information in her notes and helped her work through it. That kind of kindness, leadership, and willingness to help others, even when no one asks, is exactly what the Bulldog Way is all about. We are proud of you, Mckenzi! ❤️🐾

7th Grade – Anna Broadway

Anna represents every part of the Bulldog Way through her respect, responsibility, kindness, and work ethic. She comes to class ready to learn, works well with others, and helps create a positive classroom environment. Her teacher describes her as patient, dependable, and someone who sets a great example for her classmates.

During a science partner activity, Anna noticed another student was having difficulty understanding the assignment. Without being asked, she took the time to explain the directions and work through an example with the student rather than simply giving the answer. She was patient and encouraging while still making sure her own work was completed. Anna’s quiet leadership and willingness to help others make JJHS a better place. Congratulations, Anna! ❤️🐾

8th Grade – Jake Gulk

Jake is a wonderful example of what it means to be a JJHS Bulldog. He is considerate of others, works hard, and demonstrates leadership both on and off campus. Jake balances his involvement in sports and NJHS while maintaining excellent academic standing. He is also committed to serving his school and community and serves as a great role model for our younger Bulldogs.

At Open House, Jake noticed a new student and took it upon himself to make him feel welcome. He shook the student’s hand and personally gave him a tour of the school. No one had to tell Jake to do it, he simply saw an opportunity to make someone feel included and did the right thing. That is the kind of character and leadership we want the Bulldog Way to represent. We are proud to have Jake representing JJHS! ❤️🐾

Congratulations to Mckenzi, Anna, and Jake! Thank you for showing others what it means to work hard, be respectful, be responsible, do the right thing, and take pride in our school. 🐾❤️
