The 8th and 10th grade students enjoyed a day at top golf as the ending part of their mini golf series. Afterwards they enjoyed Canes Chicken and crumbl cookie!

Jefferson-Morgan High School GATE students recently competed in the 4th Annual STEAM Competition hosted by Range Resources. Teams were challenged to design and build a protective cage capable of withstanding the impact of a falling object on a simulated wellhead. Our students placed second, earning individual prizes and a classroom award to support future projects. Their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills truly shined.

Our 7th-grade GATE students had an unforgettable field trip to Iron Blast Game Zone, where they got an exclusive look inside real pinball machines! 🤯 They learned about the mechanics, wiring, and physics—tying into their own hands-on pinball machine project in the classroom.

After diving into the inner workings, students got to test their skills on retro arcade games, experiencing the fun firsthand! It was a perfect mix of learning and play, sparking curiosity and creativity in the best way.

Our middle school GATE students have been hard at work designing and building pinball machines—entirely out of cardboard! 🏗️ Using their creativity, problem-solving skills, and a little trial and error, these young innovators have engineered working pinball machines with ramps, bumpers, and flippers.

This hands-on STEM project challenges students to think critically about physics, mechanics, and design while having tons of fun. The results? Unique and impressive creations that showcase their talent and dedication!

Over the past three weeks, our gifted and talented students have explored the fascinating world of optical illusions! From mind-bending patterns to creative designs, they’ve learned how to trick the eye and challenge perception. Check out some of the illusions they created!

Our GATE 8 students took on the 'Egg Drop Challenge' designing devices to protect their eggs as a way to simulate protecting the human brain. Just like our skulls and the fluid around our brains cushion impacts, students had to engineer creative solutions to keep their eggs safe during a high drop. The activity was not only fun, but also a great reminder of how important it is to protect our brains in real life. Amazing job to all the teams for their ingenuity and teamwork!"

Exciting day with our Gifted and Talented Enrichment (GATE) students exploring the architectural wonders of Fallingwater! 🏞️🏰 Connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences is key in fostering curiosity and creativity.

High School Gifted and Talented students participated in a “Reverse” Egg Drop today. Students were tasked with creating a protective device for the egg, which was dropped from varying heights. The egg drop simulated head trauma, and the project shows the importance of proper head protection in the event of a fall. Congratulations to Devin Villarreal for having the most effective device!

The gifted and talented students have been exploring the properties of non-Newtonian fluids! These are fluids that do not follow Newton’s law of viscosity, meaning that their viscosity (runniness) can change when under force. We made slime and oobleck, which have properties of both solids and liquids. But there are other non-Newtonian fluids: blood, shampoo, ketchup, and many others!
