Our cosmetology seniors hit the road for Salon Tours yesterday!

A huge thank you to Indigo the salon, JCPenney Salon, and Riversong Spa - Jeff City for welcoming our students, showing them around, and taking the time to share your experience and knowledge of the beauty industry.

Getting to step inside different salon environments, meet industry professionals, and see the many career possibilities waiting for them after graduation is such a valuable experience for our seniors.

Thank you for supporting and encouraging the next generation of beauty professionals!

And the icing on the cake? Getting to end the day all together over lunch at Olive Garden! A little pasta and time together was the perfect way to wrap up a great day of learning, exploring, and making memories!

What is your favorite service(s)? Waxing and facials.

Where do you plan on working when you graduate? I’m still deciding.

What made you choose a career in Esthetics? I have always had an interest in everything beauty related!

What is one way Merrell University has prepared you for the beauty industry? My instructors have taught me the fundamentals and helped me get used to all the aspects of a spa environment.

What are some of your passions/ hobbies outside of Esthetics? I love to go shopping and I love to bake!

What are a few characteristics about yourself that will make you successful in the beauty industry? I am charismatic, flexible, and a good communicator.

This morning, our students traded their beauty tools for some self-defense skills! A huge thank you to Gary for joining us every year for our VAWA training and teaching our students practical ways to protect themselves and stay aware of their surroundings.

Judging by the number of girls who left with a new taser, we may have created a whole new level of school security. 😂

We love giving our students education that goes beyond the chair, because confidence, awareness, and knowing how to protect yourself are skills worth having!

What is your favorite service(s)? Vivid hair color and alternative haircuts and styles.

Where do you plan on working when you graduate? Mane Society Hair Salon in Eldon, Missouri.

What made you choose a career in Cosmetology? I love collaborating with clients to achieve their dream hair, style, and making them feel like their best.

What is one way Merrell University has prepared you for the beauty industry? My instructors have taken the time to ensure I’m ready to provide whatever service a client needs. Having the experience of working with every hair type has prepared me to confidently offer services to anyone who needs them.

What are some of your passions/ hobbies outside of Cosmetology? I enjoy hiking, going to concerts, harm reduction, and spending time with my friends and family.

What are a few characteristics about yourself that will make you successful in the beauty industry? I love working with people, listening, and collaborating with my clients to achieve their dream hair. I don’t take client’s trust lightly.

What is one way Merrell University has prepared you for the beauty industry? Merrell University has prepared me for the beauty industry by giving me the opportunity with hands-on client interactions, confidence, and work ethic.

What are some of your passions/ hobbies outside of Cosmetology? I like going to the gym and painting.

What is your favorite service(s)? Tint touch-up, all-over colors, and thermal styling.

Where do you plan on working when you graduate? I haven’t decided yet, but somewhere in Holts Summit or Jefferson City.

What made you choose a career in Cosmetology? To make people feel good and to be able to make my own schedule.

What is one way Merrell University has prepared you for the beauty industry? Merrell University has prepared me for the beauty industry by giving me the opportunity to work with so many clients and experience how a salon operates, while still having the support and guidance of my instructors.

What are some of your passions/ hobbies outside of Cosmetology? I love singing, playing the piano, painting, reading and doing crafts.

We were so excited to be invited by the Independent Living Resource Center, Inc. (ILRC) to help with hair and makeup for their commercial and photo shoot yesterday and today!

We didn’t get a picture of all the amazing staff and students who participated, but a huge thank you to Mrs. Fioretti, Aliah M., Haylee F., Tamika C., Danica W., and Jasmine W. for sharing their talents and helping everyone look and feel their best!

Senior Spotlight: Kaytlin Butler – Esthetics Student

What is your favorite service(s)? Lash clusters and tints, brow tints, make-up, and facials.

Where do you plan on working when you graduate? I’m still deciding, but hopefully somewhere in the Columbia/Jefferson City/Lake of the Ozarks area!

What made you choose a career in Esthetics? I’ve always had a passion for beauty. I have been practicing make-up since I was a little girl, and once I realized I could make a career out of it, I put all my time and effort to make sure I succeeded!

What is one way Merrell University has prepared you for the beauty industry? The instructors 100% made the experience worth it! I wouldn’t have the confidence I have today if it weren’t for Mrs. Fioretti and Mrs. Lehmen. They helped me develop my problem-solving skills, gave me solutions to challenges I was having on the floor, and helped me improve my professionalism. I’m genuinely grateful for my instructors. They not only taught me so much about the industry, but they also made learning so much fun. Now I have so many great memories to look back on and reminisce about!

What are some of your passions/ hobbies outside of Esthetics? I like to shop, listen to music, hang out with my friends, go to the movies, and play pickleball.

What are a few characteristics about yourself that will make you successful in the beauty industry? I am personable, charismatic, a team player, and knowledgeable.
