🦪 Louisiana's Pearl: Visioning Our Future. The Seafood Processing Demonstration Laboratory was proud to host the event on June 17.

Stakeholders from across Louisiana's oyster industry came together to discuss the future of oyster habitat, production, workforce development, marketing, and consumer demand. The event showcased the power of collaboration among industry, government, academia, and coastal communities.

As Louisiana's only seafood-focused processing and training facility, the SPDL is honored to provide a space where innovation, education, and industry engagement come together to support the future of Louisiana seafood.

Seafood Processors: Need GMP & Sanitation Training?

Join us on August 10, 2026 for the Sanitation Control Procedures (SCP) Workshop hosted by the LSU AgCenter's Beyond the Boat Seafood Processing Demonstration Lab. This AFDO-certified course provides the sanitation training required under FDA seafood regulations and helps processors meet Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) training requirements, and understand sanitations control requirements.

Iberia Parish Firestarter Leadership program students visited our Seafood Processing Demo Lab at the LSU AgCenter Iberia Station this week. These up and coming high school students from across Iberia Parish were able to learn about the Louisiana seafood industry and the role our lab plays in helping develop value added seafood products. They were able to hear presentations, see equipment demonstrations and sample products. The Firestarter program is sponsored by the Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce.

Researchers with the LSU AgCenter are working to help keep Louisiana’s sh*****ng industry afloat.

One key part of that work is the LSU AgCenter’s Seafood Processing Demonstration Lab, where researchers support shrimpers and seafood businesses from dock to market by improving product quality, ensuring safety and boosting market competitiveness.
