What do you you think about someone who is reportedly worth $28+ million dollars, sits on the Board of Directors of a regional non profit (ANCA) in the Adirondacks whose vision… is to support “an economy built on local ownership….to retain opportunity and residents.” And whose mission is “focused on small businesses, climate and energy, local food systems, and welcoming and belonging….” (You can google the rest) and all the while this board member buys up farmland through his foreign registered LLC, does nothing to improve it, and lists it at nearly twice the current assessed value, literally cutting local small businesses and farmers out of opportunity? Thoughts? I’m not surprised to find foreign private equity sucking farmland dry. We know that’s happening all over the country. But I didn’t think it would be sitting on the board of an .org that farmers go to when they’re in need. He may have some of the earliest notice that a farm is going to fold…and my question is: are we seeing what Mr. K. does with that knowledge? Farmers following along- Have you experienced something similar? What is private equity doing to the land you need for farming?
