Well , we had one beautiful day to explore the Jay Rec Trails and Jay Branch last week before the Nor’ Easter moved in!

It's starting to look like summer at the Hitchcock! This year's summer reading theme is "Color Our World," and the Hitchcock is happy to offer materials so families can continue reading and learning over the summer.

A folder with materials - informational letter, reading/activity log, and more - will be distributed to all Jay Westfield Joint Elementary School students at school very soon. Homeschooled students and students from other schools aged 3-12 are welcome to stop by the library to pick up their own materials! Thank you to Jay Focus Group for support in purchasing these materials and for volunteer support in putting the folders together!

While we cannot offer weekly summer reading programming, we hope that by providing the logs and offering an opportunity for readers to come in show their progress throughout the summer and receive prizes, they will become invested in keeping their skills up over the summer. We will, however, be holding our summer reading kick-off event with VINS on June 22 (see pinned post at the top of our page) and other events sporadically throughout the summer!

Preschool students had a visitor today. Chester had his mom bring in his new and most favorite kid from the new spring herd🤩😍

Congrats and a job well done to Ila Emery as she represented our district and school community today at the state level. The event was held at Norwich University in Northfield. She had family and teachers there to cheer her on. Emma SteMarie (Ms Julie’s daughter) organizes this event every year and is pictured on stage with Ila.

The fifth and sixth graders participated in the district science fair. Congratulations to Ila Emery for her win at the district level. Great job everyone and especially for representing JWJES Ila!

Students came back, healthy, and happy from vacation/winter break. The preschoolers were thrilled to see that the bucket loader had turned their snow pile into Mount Everest.
