That’s a wrap ! The 2026 version of the NEIMA Regional Fire School is now archived. We’ve got a ton of shout-outs here … we’d like to thank the Career Center for hosting us as always, the lunch folks , our sponsors (Jay Peak , Newport Rotary, VT Horse Council)- without them the cost per department rises ! Our great team of instructors , and all our passionate volunteers. Lilly Young, Meg Carter, Sandy Leonard , Steve Mayo, Phil Marquette, Steve Roberts and more will come to mind.
There’s more … a big thanks to some great local tow companies for getting us vehicles to train on - Rays , Grenier’s and Wrights you guys are awesome. The City of Newport , their public works department , Casella , C&C Market.

Our Regional Fire School is next weekend, April 25th & 26th, but do you know about NEIMA After Hours?

Join us for a great night of camaraderie, conversation, and connection with fellow members of the fire service.

NEIMA will once again be hosting our 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 event featuring 𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻, Chief of the Skowhegan Fire Department and owner of 𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗜𝗔𝗖 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with peers, talk through hot topics in today’s fire service, and enjoy some well-earned downtime with good food and drinks.

Ryan is the owner of MAINEIAC Fire Training, delivering practical, street-smart training across New England and beyond. With over 30 years in the fire service, he has served with the Bangor Fire Department and Waterville Fire Rescue, retiring in 2022—before answering the call again as Chief of the Skowhegan Fire Department.

Congrats to all the students who completed this weekends Essentials / Rookie class! 25+ of you from close to a dozen departments.

Full house ! This weekend will be our Essentials (Rookie) Class , being held at the Newport City fire station.
Enrollment started slow and then BAM- we’ve got 25 !
If you are in the area this weekend and see them working, don’t be shy to drop in and encourage them, they’ll need it 😀

📢 * Special Announcement *- The Mutual Aid would like to give a HUGE shoutout to the awesome folks at Jay Peak (https://jaypeakresort.com)

In an effort to keep training costs low for our local fire departments, Jay Peak stepped up in a big way to help fund the 2026 Regional Fire School.
A number of our member departments have firefighters that work at Jay , and we are thrilled to see their local involvement.

In addition to funding, we’ve been given a number of fantastic items we can raffle off!

North East International Mutual Aid (NEIMA) will be holding our Annual Regional Fire School at the North Country Career Center on the weekend of April 25th - 26th. Registration for classes offered at the NEIMA Regional Fire School is now open. The following classes are being offered this year:

Two-Day Classes
Firefighter Self Rescue/RIT
Fire Officer 101
Ventilation
Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

One-Day Classes
Fire/EMS Emergency Communications (Saturday)
Large Animal Rescue (Saturday)
Tanker Shuttle (Sunday)
Vehicle Fires (Sunday)

Fees
One-day classes: $60
Two-day classes: $120
Enrollment includes lunch on the day(s) of your class

Doors open at 07:00 both days. Classes start at 08:00.

Your registration will be sent to your department's "approver." This is generally the Chief or other officer delegated for this task. You will receive notification when your registration has been approved or if it has been rejected. Communication from the School will be sent to the email address you enter during registration, be sure the email address is correct and that you check it regularly for communication. An invalid email address may invalidate your registration. Please keep the emails you will receive from "Google Forms" and "NEIMA Fire School Form" until after the school weekend.

Mutual aid doesn’t always have to be just emergencies , it can be many things. Equipment, trainings , helping each other with common problems and solutions.

Last nights meeting in Newport Center is a greatexample. Our secretary (Stanstead) pulled a bonehead move (I’m posting this so I can call it that) - and locked his keys in the fire pickup. He got quite the look from Derby Line because well, he gave him a ride to the meeting.
After we all finished laughing (including Stanstead and Derby Line) , Troy, Newark, Newport Center , Newport City all got to work and … had that door open in no time.
I laughed most of the way home , Derby Line not so much but , he got home 😅.
That my friends , is mutual aid. That’s friendship. United.
