Sleeping under a starry sky can enhance sleep quality by aligning your circadian rhythm with natural light-dark cycles and reducing exposure to artificial light.

Exposure to natural darkness at night boosts melatonin production, a hormone critical for sleep onset and quality.

A 2013 study in Current Biology (Wright et al.) found that a week of camping, without artificial light, shifted participants’ melatonin onset earlier, synchronizing their sleep-wake cycles with sunset and sunrise. This led to more consistent and restorative sleep.

Key Study Insight:
Wright et al. (2013): After a week of camping, participants’ sleep onset advanced by ~2 hours, and they reported feeling more rested.
