The EAA Young Eagles is not a flight training program. It is a series of resources to support and educate youth and their parents about flying, flight training, and career opportunities in aviation. The entrance into these free resources for youth is the Free Young Eagle Flight. Young Eagles is for youth age 8-17 years old.

Our EAA Chapter 1560 is based at the Jasper, TN-Marion County Airport. It meets every third Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM central time. Early in the months of May and October each year, we sponsor a Young Eagles Flight Rally at the airport. Subject to weather and aircraft availability.

Our next Young Eagles Flight Rally is Saturday October 3, 2026 starting at 9:00 AM central time. We do require that each youth is registered ahead of time. This ensures accurate paperwork, and enough planes and pilots to accommodate everyone. A parent or guardian must accompany each youth to complete the required paperwork before the flight. Registration opens on September 18, 2026 at 8:00AM central time. It closes on October 1, 2026 at 9:30 PM.

Go to eaa.chapters.org to register starting September 18th. It should automatically show the 6 closest Young Eagles Flights and the distance from your zip code. Sometimes you do have to put in your correct zip code. Look for Chapter 1560 and click on it. It will walk you thru registration process. Repeat for each youth.

For more information about EAA. Go to EAA.org and on the main page, select “Youth and Young Adult” on the second line of choices at the top of the page. Then, click on “Free Young Eagles Flights” on the drop down menu. On the next page, use the menu along the left hand side to look at the first three choices. This will give you an overview and specifics of each part of the program. Besides Young Eagles, I encourage you to look at the Aeroeducate program too. There is also an Eagles Program for those 18 and older.

One of our chapter members Mark Fuller helped form a leading edge skin on this dorsal fin that was installed today on the Liberty Belle B-17 that is undergoing restoration in Douglas, Ga.

Mark participated in a recent training course sponsored by the chapter and Historic Wings where he worked with an instructor to form the skin. Congratulations Mark!

The P-40 fuselage lower longerons are stretch formed and will need to be cut to the proper length before they can be fit in the lower fuselage section.

Can’t see where there has been any progress over the past nine months at the Dunlap Skypark.

Thanks go out to chapter members Mark, Jody, David, and Chris for helping move the P-40 fuselage and Powerwagon.

Finally got to use some of the Marston mat for the first time. These interlocking steel planks were used in WWII to quickly build runways wherever they were needed.

Congratulations to the graduates of the Aviation Sheetmetal Instruction session at the Historic Wings shop in Locust Grove, Ga.

Thanks to Chapter members Cris Hunter and Mark Fuller for coming down this week to participate. The work you did will help several historic aircraft to return to the air. We hope you learned new skills that will help you as well as our Chapter in working on aviation projects.
