We mourn the loss of Dolly Parton, whose impact on our state extends far beyond her music. Through her unwavering commitment to literacy through the Imagination Library, she has gifted more than 332 million books to children, including almost 3.2 million books each month across 5 countries. Dolly inspired generations of Tennessee children to discover the joy and power of reading, putting millions of books into the hands of young readers. AMERICA'S FAVORITE STUDENT: Andrew Dunn, a 7th grader in Marion County, is America's favorite student. Taking home a title that more than 50-thousand students across the country were up for.

As the winner, Andrew receives $20,000 to put toward his education, a professional photoshoot, and a personal tour by Bill Nye the Science Guy of the Planetary Society in Los Angeles.⬇️

The Marion County Board of Education recognized Jasper Middle School’s Andrew Dunn last night after Mr. Dunn was selected as the 2026 America’s Favorite Student National Champion! Congratulations, Andrew! We are so proud of you, and we cannot wait to see all of your future achievements as well!

The Marion County Board of Education recognized Miss Jaylee Johnson, the 2026 Tennessee Long Jump State Champion, for her outstanding accomplishment in Track and Field. Miss Johnson is the first female State Champion in South Pittsburg High School history. Congratulations to this amazing student-athlete for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to the sport!

Yesterday, Marion County School District representatives had the pleasure of touring the Leidos Advanced Training Complex and see the machines Drake State will be donating for future student use.

“As a rural school district, we’re always needing resource, partners, and different things of that nature. And I think we’ve just established a new partnership with Drake State,” said Mark Griffith, Marion County Superintendent of Schools. “Being able to utilize the equipment that’s going to be donated, will help our student body actually get a foot in the door down here [in Huntsville]. We certainly appreciate this and [are] glad for the opportunity.”

This partnership helps connect students with advanced technology, hands-on learning opportunities, and a greater awareness of the educational and career pathways available through Drake State. We look forward to working together to strengthen workforce development and create new opportunities for students across Marion County.

STILL GOING! Congratulations to our very own Mrs Kelly McElhiney who has been chosen to represent the Southeast Region for State Teacher of the Year.

Mrs McElhiney will now advance to the interview portion of the process. We wish Mrs McElhiney the best of luck in this final stage.
