What does it actually mean to be pro-life?
The Catholic vision of human dignity challenges us to recognize Christ in every human person, including when doing so is difficult.
We defend unborn children.
We accompany mothers and fathers.
We protect people with disabilities.
We care for the sick and dying rather than abandoning them to assisted su***de.
We reject the idea that someone's worst action erases his or her human dignity.
We care about people suffering from poverty, violence, trafficking and war.
Different threats to human life raise different moral questions and are not morally identical. But they share one fundamental truth:
Human dignity comes from God.
The USCCB likewise teaches that abortion and euthanasia are direct attacks on life while also calling Catholics to oppose the death penalty, torture, unjust war, trafficking, racism, poverty and other assaults on human dignity.
Mary, Mother of Life - pray for us.
