🦋 Beautiful Day for Butterfly Release 🦋

Today Ms. Garner's 4th graders released the last two of 16 monarch butterflies that emerged from their chrysalises in the classroom. Ms. Garner spent her summer raising monarch caterpillars and brought them in so students could observe the butterfly lifecycle. Students will begin reading about monarch migration during reading groups and these observations helped them build background knowledge. 🐛

🧮 Creating Numbers Racks in 2S 🧮

After learning how to use number racks, Mrs. Sweeney's class made their own number racks out of pipe cleaners and red and white beads. This allows each student to have their own math tool to use to solve problems. These number racks help 2nd graders solve equations within 20 as well as represent and count numbers using groups of 5s and 10s. Keep up the great work, 2nd graders!

🧮 Racking Up Numbers in 2C 🧮

Mrs. Chapman's 2nd graders did an excellent job using number racks to show different ways to make a number. Students used their number racks to model a number and then shared different ways with the class. For example, students shared 7+1, 0+8 and 4+4 as ways to make 8. How else can you make 8?

Great work Tigers!
