Have you ever wondered how Neurovascular Holding Points were discovered?

The story begins in the 1930s with Dr. Terence Bennett, a California chiropractor who became fascinated by the possibility that blood flow to specific organs and tissues could be influenced through reflex points on the head and face.

To test his theory, Bennett reportedly used a fluoroscope, a real-time X-ray machine, to observe changes in blood circulation. Historical accounts passed down through Applied Kinesiology and documented in foundational texts such as Touch for Health describe him injecting a radiopaque contrast dye so blood flow could be visualized on the screen.

As he gently touched different areas of the scalp and face, he reportedly observed immediate changes in circulation to corresponding organs and tissues—including the stomach, liver, and even specific muscles.

Whether viewed as a fascinating piece of kinesiology history or an intriguing physiological observation, Bennett’s work laid the foundation for what we now know as Neurovascular Holding Points.

Curious to learn how these points are used today? Join us for Touch for Health this fall at the Richardson Center.
