were nominated last week as Pillars of JPS! The JPS Pillars celebrate staff members who have been recognized for making an impact on our school community. Join us in congratulating these individuals!
Melissa Rutski | Interim-Assistant Principal | Persell Middle School
"Melissa has been a wonderful addition to Persell this September as she has stepped in to fill our open AP position. She has been an enormous asset to our school, taking on so many of the important “intangibles” that have helped us get the school year off to a great start for both staff and students. Melissa is always willing to listen, lend a hand, and offer assistance whenever it is needed. She has quickly built positive relationships with both teachers and students and has become a valued member of our Persell team. Thank you, Melissa, for stepping up and helping wherever you are needed. Your willingness to jump in, your support, and your expertise have been greatly appreciated. We are so fortunate to have you with us!"
"Melissa came out of retirement once again to help Persell Middle School get the school year off to a great start! It is especially meaningful to have Melissa return to Persell, a place that holds a special part of her educational journey. Over 30 years ago, Melissa began her career at Persell as a math teacher, and now she has returned to help lead and support our school. We are incredibly grateful that Melissa chose to come out of retirement and spend her time supporting Persell once again. Thank you, Melissa, for your dedication, flexibility, and willingness to help our school community. We truly appreciate everything you have done to help make our start to the school year a successful one!"
Stefanie Shay | H&A Clerk | Persell Middle School
"Stefanie spends countless hours reaching out to families and connecting them to our school through phone calls and Talking Points. She works diligently to make sure all student and contact information is accurate and up to date as we begin the school year. Stefanie is friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help families and staff. She goes above and beyond to ensure families feel connected and supported, and her attention to detail helps our school run smoothly. We truly appreciate the time, care, and positive attitude she brings to Persell each day."
Ellen Greenfield | Science Teacher | Persell Middle School
"When Ellen smiles, the whole school seems to light up. Her positive personality and genuine ability to recognize when others need encouragement are truly a gift. She brings warmth and energy into her classroom with her signature corny jokes, creating an environment where students feel comfortable, valued, and cared for. There is a strong sense of mutual respect in Miss Greenfield’s classroom. She builds meaningful relationships with her students while maintaining an environment that encourages learning, accountability, and belonging. Ellen is also a true team player who is always willing to contribute and support those around her. Her recent involvement with the Tier 2 team is another example of her commitment to helping students and strengthening our school community. Miss Greenfield is an incredible asset to Persell and to the JPS District. Her positivity, compassion, and dedication have a lasting impact on both students and staff."
Benjamine Pennington | Paraprofessional | Persell Middle School
"Ben is always incredibly helpful to students, being a friendly face, a guiding voice, or a stern reminder wherever needed. He provides passion in all subjects, inciting the same passion in students. He is reliable, consistent, and active in the classroom. Ben remains focused on what's best for the students, and never ceases to do whatever they need, always putting them first."
