Southwestern Middle School is pleased to introduce its Students of the Month for September 2023. Congratulations to sixth-grader Zaira Gustafson, seventh-grader Ryen Hebner and eighth-grader Emily Weber. 👏👏👏
Sixth-grader Zaira Gustafson’s favorite subjects in school are science and math. She plays on the Southwestern volleyball team and belongs to the Southern Tier Football Club. When she is not at school, she likes to hang out with her friends and play volleyball and soccer. Zaira is the daughter of Amber Rizzo and Barry Gustafson.
Seventh-grader Ryen Hebner’s favorite subjects in school are math, English Language Arts, science, and social studies. He belongs to Southwestern Band and Choir and outside of school he is a part of NYSSMA and another band group. When Ryen is not at school, he enjoys reading books about mythology. Ryen is the son of Brandie Hebner.
Eighth-grader Emily Weber’s favorite subjects in school are social studies and art. Outside of school, she volunteers at Nola’s Angels and a horse rescue. She even sponsors one of the horses! When Emily is not in school, she enjoys going to Nola’s Angels and spending time with her cat. Emily is the daughter of Amanda Weber.

Southwestern Central School District, in Lakewood, NY, serves 1,500 students in Pre-K to 12th grade. Our district is comprised of three buildings.
The Southwestern Central School District serves approximately 1,500 students. Southwestern Elementary School, which opened in September 2002, has 687students enrolled in grades Pre-K-5; the Middle School serves 326 students in grades 6-8, and at the High School there are 477 students in grades 9-12. Employment in the district is comprised of 129 faculty members and 76 non-instructional personnel.
