Members of the Jamestown NY Fire Department take this approach to all aspects of Fire/EMS training and education. This also applies to honoring those who came before us through our Honor Guard.

Today, members of the Jamestown Fire Honor Guard practiced the changing of the guard in a setting that reinforced the importance of what we do. The Honor Guard wants to sincerely thank the staff at Lind Funeral Home, Inc. who graciously gave of their time, space, and equipment to allow members to practice. Members volunteered their time to practice meticulous timing and movements that allow them to properly relieve and post casket guards.

These moments, while the worst time in many families lives are some of the many moments where the brotherhood of Fire/Emergency services becomes tangible. The Honor Guard is committed to protecting and serving the fallen, their families, and the brotherhood.

We also want to thank the community for their continued support!

Did you know the history of the Honor Guard can be traced back to Ancient Rome? The Pretorian Guard was formed as personal bodyguards then, in the imperial period, it was an elite force assigned to protect the emperor and Rome.

Today, the Honor Guard serves as a ceremonial unit to provide honors to all of our fallen brothers and sisters.

Last night, the Jamestown Fire Department Honor Guard members volunteered their time to train on the changing of the casket guard. These members meticulously practiced movements, timing, and cues. The Honor Guard is committed to accepting nothing less than excellence when it comes to honoring those who have fallen and their families.

The Honor Guard officers would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the present and past members of the Jamestown NY Fire Department Local 137 and the Morton Club who have committed to providing this service to all those who came before us and those of the future.

Members of the honor guard attended 2 sessions of training in the last month. Both sessions implemented the new framework of the honor guard to establish a command structure and to improve performance. Members practiced commands, timing, and ex*****on of the skills necessary to carry out our duties. Full members of the honor guard were presented with JFD Honor guard coins to recognize their dedication to the brotherhood. Other members began their honor guard probation where they will prove their desire to become a full member. A HUGE thank you to the members for giving your time to do this. Also thank you to the National Honor Guard Academy for giving us the tools to make this happen at home.
