Don’t have access to dumbbells? Here is a list of common items you can find around your home for easy substitutions:
• Canned Goods
• Water Bottles
• Milk Jugs
During these extremely challenging times, we just want to let you know that we are thinking about you. Many are doing their best to stay active by exercising at home. Are you incorporating strengthening into your routine? Learn more about why you should.
There are numerous benefits to strength training. Here are some practical reasons why strength training should be part of your fitness routine:
• Resistance training keeps your muscles strong which helps you to enjoy many daily activities and recreation.
• Strength training helps reduce your risk of muscles and tendon injuries.
• Strength training helps maintain muscle mass.
• Muscle tissue burns more calories than adipose tissue.
Strength Training Safety Tips:
• Start slowly, especially if you haven’t been active for a long time.
• Pay attention to your body.
• Use small amounts of weight to start.
• Use smooth, steady movements to lift weights into position.
• Avoid “locking” your arm and leg joints in a straight position.
• Don’t hold your breath during strength exercises.
***Assignment: Open the attached link and try doing 2 sets to 10 of each of the exercises. Respond with your favorite Core, Upper Body and Lower Body exercise (one from each category). This assignment is due by Thursday, April 30.
