✨🎓Alumni Spotlight: Tommy Voss, MD 🎓✨

We’re excited to feature Tommy Voss, 2019 Exercise Science graduate.
After graduating from UJ, Tommy attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin – Central Wisconsin, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in 2024. He is currently a resident physician in anesthesiology at Duke University Medical Center.

“My favorite part of being a physician in anesthesiology is caring for critically ill and injured patients when they need it most,” he says. “I enjoy being part of a team that stabilizes patients, manages life-threatening situations, and helps guide them safely through surgery. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work we do makes a meaningful impact during some of the most critical moments in a patient’s care.”

Outside of work, Tommy enjoys spending time outdoors playing pickup basketball and pickleball. He also likes trying different pizza spots to see which one is the best. Additionally, he likes to hang out with his co-residents and his wife (who is also a 2019 UJ alum!) 🍕🏀

Tommy’s advice to current UJ KNS students (...and maybe after this weekend, recent graduates 😎) –

“Never be afraid to chase your dreams, even if the path seems challenging or uncertain. Work hard, stay curious, and take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow. With dedication and perseverance, you can accomplish incredible things and make a meaningful impact in whatever field you choose.”🎤🧡

✨🎓Alumni Spotlight: Mike Perez🎓✨

We’re excited to feature Mike Perez, 2008 Physical Education, Health and Fitness Administration graduate (with a minor in Coaching)

Mike is the District Athletic Director at DSST Public Schools and Campus Athletic Director at DSST Conservatory Green 6-12 in Denver, Colorado. This position allows him to impact students, coaches, and families in a meaningful way. He enjoys creating opportunities for young athletes to grow not only in their sport, but also in character, teamwork, and leadership.

“I find energy in building positive cultures where athletes feel supported, coaches feel empowered, and parents feel connected. Every day brings new challenges, but I value the chance to problem-solve, organize, and lead programs that bring people together and create memorable experiences. Ultimately, what I enjoy most is knowing the work I do helps shape a strong, supportive community through athletics.”

Outside of work, Mike likes spending time with his wife Caitlin, and daughters Laurel (3) and Colette (1).

Mike has great advice for current Jimmies:

“Embrace every opportunity to learn and gain hands-on experience. This field is constantly evolving, and the more you can immerse yourself in different aspects of athletics, health, and human performance, the better prepared you’ll be for your career.

Build strong relationships with your professors, mentors, and peers, because those connections often open doors down the road.

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone—whether it’s taking on leadership roles, volunteering with teams, or exploring new areas of kinesiology.

Most importantly, remember that the foundation of this profession is helping others grow and succeed, so approach everything you do with passion, humility, and a willingness to serve.” 🖤🧡

Yesterday, we celebrated some truly incredible individuals who make our UJ KNS community so special 🧡🖤

Congratulations to all of our Honors Day recipients, including Majors of the Year Madison Kirschemann and Mackenzie Couling, as well as our College Fellows Jaeda Clayton, Jaylin Cotton, Avery Goll, Nick Martinez, Brendan Palmer, Cody Pellaton, Sara Sletto, Garrett Sullivan, Valentina Velasquez, Gracie Adamson, and Mia Hinsz.

We are so proud of everything you've accomplished and can't wait to see the impact you continue to make!

As if that wasn't enough to be excited about, please join me in congratulating our very own Nicole Hochhalter on being named 2026 Professor of the Year 🎉🎉

This honor is so incredibly well deserved. The way you show up for your students—with patience, passion, encouragement, and genuine care makes a lasting impact far beyond the classroom.

Your leadership and dedication have also been instrumental in helping us achieve our CASCE certification—a milestone that reflects not only the strength of our program, but the countless hours and effort you poured into making it possible. That achievement will impact students for years to come, and it wouldn't have happened without you.

This recognition is just a glimpse of what you mean to all of us, we are SO proud to celebrate this moment with you.

Congratulations again to all of you—you've earned it! A great day to be a major 🎓🧡🖤
