Molloy offers 7th and 8th graders an opportunity to take a TACHS prep course directly at our school! Catholic high schools in the Brooklyn-Queens Diocese use student results from the TACHS exam as one of their primary criteria for admissions. Taught by our experienced Math and English faculty, students will review the math, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary skills needed for the exam and learn test taking strategies to help them work more efficiently and with greater confidence!

The $399 tuition includes the cost of the TACHS prep book as well as the diagnostic exam.

The Class of 2030 attended its Freshman One Day Retreat on Thursday, September 3, 2026! Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to connect with their classmates while learning about the five Marist Pillars: Presence, Simplicity, Family Spirit, Love of Work, and In the Way of Mary.

The retreat gave incoming Stanners a meaningful introduction to what it means to be a Marist student at Molloy, encouraging them to become agents of justice and service while embracing their role as faith-filled members of our community. Activities included lighting their class candle, playing games, listening to presentations, walking through a blindfolded obstacle course, participating in a magic show, and more! Thank you to Mr. Corrado, Mrs. Morris, and Mr. Costa from our Campus Ministry team for giving Stanners a chance to come together and make connections before classes begin!

Archbishop Molloy High School is saddened to share the passing of Mr. Kevin Lavelle on August 22, 2026. Mr. Lavelle joined Molloy’s staff in 2016 as one of our first Safety & Security officers. A retired NYPD officer and Stanner parent, Mr. Lavelle was previously stationed at the nearby 107th Precinct for many years, where he served as Molloy’s local police liaison. At Molloy, Mr. Lavelle kept Stanners safe and offered warm greetings to students, faculty, and visitors each day at the front desk. Mr. Lavelle served in this role until 2024, when he stepped away due to an illness. He was a kind, dedicated, funny, and caring person who will be deeply missed.

We pray for Mr. Lavelle, his loving wife Marina, their children, Kevin ‘13, Christina ‘15, and Garrett ‘19, and all of Mr. Lavelle’s loved ones during this difficult time.

Molloy is excited to welcome Mr. David Nurnberg as its new Athletic Director! An accomplished athletic administrator and educator, Mr. Nurnberg joins Molloy after six successful years as Athletic Director at Lexington Catholic High School, where student-athletes captured 26 team and individual state championships. Before joining Lexington Catholic, Mr. Nurnberg built an impressive record of leadership in athletics and education, serving as Program Coordinator at St. Xavier High School in Kentucky, leading a Coaching Mentor Program at Father Ryan High School in Tennessee, contributing to successful football programs in Georgia and Alabama, and teaching both Physical Education and English Literature. His extensive experience in athletic leadership, coaching, and education will help strengthen and grow Molloy's proud athletic tradition.

As Molloy continues to invest in the future of Stanner Athletics, including the unveiling of newly renovated locker rooms and athletic offices in Fall 2026, we are excited for the leadership, vision, and enthusiasm Mr. Nurnberg will bring to our community. Welcome to Molloy, Mr. Nurnberg!

Freshman Camp remains one of Molloy’s favorite traditions, and this year was no exception! Incoming freshmen spent July 5th - 11th at the Marist Brothers’ Center in Esopus, NY, where they connected with fellow Stanners, met future teachers, and engaged in a range of lively activities.

Another unforgettable week of faith, friendship, and Stanner family spirit, the Class of 2030 spent camp swimming, hiking, playing games, participating in sports, and taking part in morning and evening prayers. Mr. Jim Sheldon, one of the faculty leaders of Freshman Camp, elaborated, “We played flag, dodgeball, and had our yearly camp competition. There were creative activities, basketball, cageball, and our annual first class liturgy. Everyone was welcomed into the Stanner family!”

Each year, faculty, staff, alumni, and current students volunteer their time to make Freshman Camp a success. Thank you to everyone who plans, leads, and supports this incredible tradition to help create an unforgettable welcome for our newest Stanners. In Mr. Sheldon’s words, “The Marist charism burns bright with the incoming freshman experiencing Esopus in the summer!”

Today we commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people on June 19, 1865 in Galveston Bay, Texas. On that day, more than 250,000 African Americans were freed by executive order, giving rise to the holiday’s alternate name, “Freedom Day.” By understanding the past, we can build a better future. Happy Juneteenth.

Today, Mr. Frank Gambino ‘74 concludes his 45 year teaching career at Archbishop Molloy High School as he begins his retirement! Over the decades, Mr. Gambino has filled the roles of teacher, coach, mentor, and friend, enriching the lives of countless Stanners along the way.

Mr. Gambino was honored at our most recent Commencement Ceremony for his outstanding dedication and service as an educator. Today, on his final day at Molloy, students, faculty, and staff lined the halls outside his last class to clap and cheer as he exited the classroom for the final time. Mr. Gambino's wife, Karen, was also in attendance to accompany him down the hall.

We wish you all the best in retirement, Mr. Gambino! You will always be a part of the Molloy family, and we will miss seeing you each day!
